Just arrived in #Rajasthan, starting with #Udaipur, the famous City of Lakes. And I have to say, I liked it more than I expected
It’s not just the lakes and the surrounding hills, or even the old town
There’s something about the whole setting that makes it a really enjoyable place to explore
But the highlight is the City Palace, massive, one of the biggest in #India (up there with #Mysore). Endless rooms, intricate details, and some great views over the lake.

Attributed to the 'Stipple Master' who used a European influenced form of 'Grisaille' or, 'painted drawing', a style of #Painting which leaves the buff-background uncoloured.

Maharana Sajjan Singh of #Udaipur #Rajasthan on a beautifully caparisoned #Elephant in his palace garden.
This c1880 AD #Rajput #IndianMiniaturePainting comes from an illustrated manuscript (Shadritu) & is closely related to Vasant, season of spring.
Sold by Christie's on 22nd May 2019 for £13,750.At the age of 16, Sajjan Singh became the ruler of #Mewar, dying 10 years later in 1884 due to excessive drinking (liver cirrhosis).
