But it’s dispiriting to hear that ASEs outside of the SF Bay Area and LA felt that a geographically unequal COLA was worth a No vote. Firefighters unions are accustomed to the reality of local price level differences, just ask members who serve in Silicon Valley

A tentative agreement does not mean a contract has been ratified. Until rank and file vote, the strike is still on, which means there’s still an active picket line. #ucstrike

It looks like UC graduate students have won their strike.
' The strike was notable for its size and scale, but also because of what it could mean for other universities, said Tim Cain, associate professor of higher education at the University of Georgia. If graduate employees and researchers ratify the contracts, it could prompt similar changes at colleges that compete with UC or where graduate workers are organizing unions. '

My partner came down with bacterial meningitis early on thanksgiving morning. That was the week after the #ucstrike started.
With two children under 7yo at home, this time has really been something. I’m grateful i have an academic job that allows some flexibility. But if these events had happened in October, before instruction was effectively in the bag, that would have been catastrophic -
