Here's a photo I took today of my Nexus 7 (2013), still (kind of) happily running Ubuntu Touch. The clock has drifted a little. My little tablet has slipped back to August 13th of 1972 (wish I could do the same!).
It's a shame they never got Ubuntu Touch running smoothly on this device.

Back in ~2016, I installed #UbuntuTouch on my Google Nexus 6 (2013). Some apps didn't run and there was poor documentation, so I abandoned the project.
This weekend, Ubuntu finally closed the no-documentation bug. Yes, ten years later! I must have been subscribed to the bug. My email got flooded by ex-Ubuntu engineers reminiscing about the project.
This caught the attention of the tech press!

@stdevel @vincentdettmer Ja ich nutze das seit einigen Jahren nach #WebOS und #UbuntuPhone zuvor war hat man gleich gemerkt, dass #SailfishOS super flüssig daher kam und einen guten Eindruck in der Bedienung macht. Das OS ist also definitiv zu empfehlen. Ob man damit aber als "einziges" Smartphone klar kommt hängt entscheidend davon ab was man von einem Smartphone erwartet. Den Jolla eigenen Browser hab ich mehr oder weniger abgeschrieben.

More improvements in Ubuntu Touch
Recently, Ubuntu Touch has seen a lot of improvements regarding many different aspects of the operating system that you can install on your Volla 22 and on your Fairphone 5, including the fact that Ubuntu Touch has improved VoLTE support for said phones.
For the Noble Numbat version of Ubuntu Touch, a new app store, called OpenStore, is now available and will be rolled out to all supported phones. This store will detect the operating system that is running on your phone and filters the applications accordingly.
With the modern version of Go in use, the notification stack for your phones has been re-written to improve user experience and to make handling notifications easier and more intuitive.
As for those who rely on an eSIM to make calls and send SMS messages, you can now use it to perform such tasks. However, there is currently no user interface built to support such hardware, and you’ll have to use the command line to connect to your eSIM on supported phones. The Lpac library has been used to facilitate this task. For those who haven’t heard of it, it is a cross-platform local profile agent program that boasts the following features:
- Activation and confirmation code support
- Send custom IMEI number to the server
- Profile Discovery (SM-DS) support
- List, enable, disable, delete, and name your profile
- List, send, and delete your notifications
- Lookup eUICC chip info
- …and so on
For multimedia, there were changes baked in to the latest Ubuntu Touch update which allows some multimedia to work with USB-C. However, it’s work in progress, so don’t expect call audio to work with Ubuntu Touch yet. Also, it doesn’t automatically detect whether the USB is plugged in and adjust the sound routing to go to that device.
As for the Qt 6 integration, the Ubuntu Touch team have declared that it’s going well, and that it would be helpful for the Morph browser. Also, the Settings app will be updated to include both VoLTE and eSIM to make sure that you can manage those easier than before.

#Ubuntu passa a #flatpaks, di questo ne siamo felici ma ovviamente tutto questo porta alla seguente riflessione:
- #UbuntuOne è stato chiuso.
- #UbuntuPhone è stato chiuso.
- #UbuntuTV è stato chiuso.
- #Unity è stato chiuso.
- #Mir è stato chiuso.
- #snaps è un morto ma non lo sa.
A quando la prossima chiusura? Questi fallimenti dovrebbero far capire a #canonical che sarà brava in tante cose ma di certo non nella scelta di come impiegare le proprie risorse per fare innovazione. #opensource -
