  15. @nuccitheboss @kenvandine Great Q&A session!

I watched the live stream of @kenvandine 's Q&A session, was great, that he left near 30 min for Q&A.

When I gave this talk on #FOSDEM #FOSDEM2024 I got only a 25-min slot and they showed me the "still XX min" cards too late so that I did not have time for Q&A, only a hallway session afterwards.

On #GUADEC #GUADEC2024, if they accept my #UbuntuCoreDesktop talk, I will get a 40 min slot and I will give the same 25-min talk as I did on FOSDEM ...

  17. Ubuntu Core Desktop Delayed, Won’t Be Released in April

Ubuntu Core Desktop will not be released alongside Ubuntu 24.04 LTS in April, as originally hoped. For those thinking “wait, what?!” — last year Canonical announced it was building an all-snap, immutable version of Ubuntu for home users called Ubuntu Core Desktop. Further, it was aiming to make the first version available to download in April of this year, alongside the regular Ubuntu 24.04 LTS release. It wasn’t going to be default, more of a formal, public preview release. But those plans have changed: [Ubuntu Core Desktop] won’t be released by 24.04, and unfortunately, I can’t provide a date until :sys_more_orange:

  31. @jalefkowit @jorge And under the sandboxing/cross-distro packaging methods #Snap is the one which covers all types of applications: GUI//Desktop, CLI, system and user daemons, desktop environments, even kernels, core systems, and boot systems, so that one can make up an all-Snap OS, like #UbuntuCoreDesktop

  35. Good News!! The world of #Linux will get more snappy in 2024!

@zygoon is returning to #Canonical to make #Snap working better with all distros especially non- #Ubuntu.

So snapping your apps will make them available for all distros (including #UbuntuCoreDesktop but also most of the others).

And we at #OpenPrinting can easily distribute printer and scanner drivers as Printer/Scanner Application Snaps!

  39. @frameworkcomputer Looks great, thinking about buying a 13 DIY with Intel 13th gen, 64GB RAM, 4 TB storage beginning 2024 when I get my next laptop compensation at Canonical. To run Ubuntu on it. And with a pluggable 1TB module I could run #UbuntuCoreDesktop for testing and demoing.

And AFAIK classically confined #Snap cannot be installed on all-Snap distros as #UbuntuCore or #ubuntuCoreDesktop.

  51. #Canonical reveals more details about #UbuntuCoreDesktop
This new entrant in the #immutable space is not a replacement for ordinary #Ubuntu
Updates are monolithic: a whole fresh image is pushed out, and all the OS components are upgraded in a single operation. Canonical believes it has some unique new angles. #CoreDesktop is constructed as additional layers on top of the existing #UbuntuCore, and like Core, it's entirely built with a single packaging system: Ubuntu's Snap
