On a recent trip I took two groundsheets to try out - a Polycro and a Tyvek.

Polycro is lighter, but that is where its advantage ends. It is not as durable as Tyvek and it seems to attract moisture and dust a lot more.

The UL fanatics can keep ranting about Polycro, but I would rather use two Tyvek groundsheets in future.

"The phrase 'Better Living Through Chemistry' (BLTC) is a variant of a #DuPont advertising slogan, 'Better Things for Better Living...Through Chemistry'. DuPont adopted it in 1935 and it was their slogan until 1982 when the 'Through Chemistry' part was dropped. Since 1999, their slogan has been 'The miracles of science'.

The phrase 'Better Living Through Chemistry' was used on products that were not affiliated with DuPont to circumvent trademark infringement.[citation needed] This transmutation is now more commonly used than the original. Sleep time in the Fish River Canyon will be simple again: two groundsheets and no tent. This time around I opted for a tyvek sheet and a polycro sheet. I found the ground sheets that I used the previous time were too narrow.

The plan is to sleep on the more sturdy tyvek sheet and unpack my gear on the polycro sheet. In the unlikely scenario of rain at night, I'll simply sleep underneath the polycro sheet as it is wider that the tyvek sheet.

I have modified the tyvek sheet with some metal grommets. I'll put some lightweight cord in there in case I want to peg it down. Not sure about doing the same to the polycro sheet - thst material is a bit flimsy.

A long, long time ago, I had it in my head to start sewing wallets out of Tyvek, of all the things. The material is waterproof, incredibly strong, and takes to sewing rather well. And interestingly, FedEx and USPS are a pretty inexpensive source for this material.

I made some with some thick parachute-like material I had sitting around, and that worked as well.
