just remembered how last year a work colleague in #Felixstowe needed two new #tyres on the fleet car she was using - I recommended the tyre garage near the library and the second hand bookshop as it was part of same group (Hadleigh Tyres) I'd used for last 6 years with good results.
She got the tyres, and submitted invoice for the expense claim. I was initially a bit confused, as the address given was 200 metres away from where I remember the tyre garage being.
Turns out that Hadleigh Tyres do indeed have *two* branches in Felixstowe, not at all far away from one another and *both* are busy and doing well (an indictment on the state of the roads in that town)

Schwalbe Ice Spiker Pro review part 2, after an entire season:
I wish there had been more snow last winter! I really liked these tyres but I ended up having to replace 48 spikes in the one that was on the rear wheel and about 12 in the other one. That's a lot of lost spikes! However, (unlike the Winter Marathons) none of the spike "sockets" are damaged. I used alu spikes to replace the lost ones, let's see how it goes this season.

The Strava IPO and My Desire To Quit the App

This morning I woke at 0530 and thought "I can't be bothered to go for a ride so early." Within a few minutes I was up getting ready. I put on my Autumnal cyclist stuff and pumped the tyres to 80 bar. I then road to the meeting point. I arrived 15 minutes early and was surprised not to see anyone appear until 5 minutes before. I had considered going for a solo ride as a result.
Svelte Experience
The group rode fast this morning. Everyone was at a good level so no one was left behind, struggling to keep up. During this ride I noticed that the continental GP 4 season tyres I now have on my bike felt great. They felt so smooth and comfortable.
I first mounted these tyres a year ago, and then after just 200 kilometres I swapped them for GP 5000 tyres because Autumn had turned into Summer. In summer it makes sense to use summer tyres as they're lighter and faster.
A Gravel Experience
On sunday I rode them on stony gravel between Grilly and Sauvergny and then again along a forest road towards Décathlon and Chavannes Centres and seemed to have no issues. In theory they're road tyres, but since they're meant to have good puncture protection I am being a little rougher than I should.
The rough treatment was not intentional. I noticed a cycling route sign that I had not seen before so I turned around and followed it. At first the road was fine, and then it became a dirt track, and then it became a stony track.
With the GP5000 I have been on such road segments and they survived, so I expected that the GP 4 Seasons would handle this terrain just as well, if not better. It's a few days later and the tyres still hold pressure.
Of Price and Curiousity
There are winter tyres for 15 CHF but the Continental GP 4 Season are around 40 CHF each, so it'? tempting to buy and try cheap tyres but, at the same time, since I expect GP 5000 to last four thousand kilometres, I expect the same from the GP 4 Season tyres.
I am curious to test cheaper tyres, but for them to be cheaper they need to last at least two thousand kilometres. If I ride with a group then I need to have fast tyres.
And Finally
The tyres felt great today. They felt really smooth. Having said this, I felt that I had to work harder to keep up with the group than with the other tyres. If I see someone get dropped I often slow down for them, as it gives me an opportunity to rest. I am cautious, however, because dropping back can encourage people to slow down, and then when you drop the group it will take a big effort to catch up again.
If I was riding solo, or in a slow group I would have more freedom with tyre choice.

Just got round to playing with a set of Schwalbe CLIK valves.
As hoped, these are a game changer for disc (in the aerodynamic rather than braking sense) wheels, where you need a narrow right-angle head to fit through the hole in the disc. The positive click action requires surprisingly little force, seals perfectly and opens the valve fully so you can get a sensible pressure gauge reading. Unlike most right-angle adaptors, it stays put so you have both hands available to operate the pump. And disconnects quickly without loss of air.
My Road Morph Presta head inflates them fine.
Not sure how much of a benefit they are for tubeless (never had much luck with that), but they do seem like a win for disc wheels or anyone who struggles with conventional valves and pump heads due to hand impairments.
Main downside compared to Presta is that they need a special type of valve cap...

Anyone tried Vitour tires for autocross?
They seem to be popular locally, sticky but wear well. Being referred to as the 'cheaters of cheaters'. Banned in SCCA I'm told? One of our local drivers did well this last weekend.
They didn't have the size that I wanted and I've changed the entire suspension so didn't want to end up with a different rolling diameter at the same time - too many changes all at once. Otherwise probably would have gone that route.
Supposedly they don't light off quickly - if sharing a car be the second driver. 😜 🙃

tyre wasn't losing air quickly but I didn't want to take any chances, so early start the next day to drive to the #tyre garage - thought I might be needing new #tyres due to high speed rating, but thankfully it could be repaired (cost me £30, £5 more than similar repairs for Polo, not sure if it was cost of living increase or " #GTI tax", but having hauled around wheels myself for past few days I think the lad earned his extra fiver, they are heavy and he has to do that all day..)
Cleaned up front discs and calipers as well, 8mm on front #brake pads (tip - if you drive a Euro #car buy the peg that screws into the bolt holes, makes putting the wheel back on way easier)
Also got a proper Euro warning triangle that fits in the compartment made for it

Keep in mind that in hot weather, your brake distance will actually increase up to 20% with the wrong #tires. Not only are winter tires bad for braking in summer, they can also fail completely in extremely hot weather, basically melting.
In some countries like Italy you're not allowed to drive with winter #tyres in the summer, in Germany it's allowed (but still dangerous). -

Cross Hands business to give old tyres a new life
Tuf Treads will save old tyres from landfill by using them to produce premium re-treaded tyres using latest manufacturing technology. Re-treading gives suitable tyres a new start once the original tread is worn away.
Based at Cross Hands Strategic Employment Site, the new factory will see 30 new jobs created.
It is backed by £400k from the Economy Futures Fund and £220k Circular Economy Funding from the Welsh Government.
Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Energy and Planning, Rebecca Evans, said: “This new facility will fill a gap in the market for the successful Tuf Treads – saving up to 30kg of rubber, 20kg of steel and 60kg of CO2 from landfill each time a truck or bus tyre is re-treaded.
“The innovative and sustainable nature of this service is exactly the sort of business practice we want to support as we nurture a greener economy based around the industries of the future.
