@frankps I would like to give a try to #SailfishOS on an old Samsung Galaxy S4.

I have read the procedure - linked by community hw adaptations post on forum.sailfishos.org. In 2022 it required rooting and then flashing of #TWRP and #LineageOS v17.1 first.

But LOS now has something called samloader-rs, which builds on heimdall, for easy flashing on Samsung devices. Apparently without needing root privileges. Do you have any experience with it?

Must admit I am not an Android user so this is all new for me. Thanks for sharing.

This is the phone I'm talking about that I revived, the on5xelte. Released in 2016. I think we got this when we were in Australia way back then. Passed down from my family and now to me, the caretaker of old, forgotten and dead phones and tablets.

I installed F-Droid then Termux, some Fossify apps, Ironfox, Rethink app and Open Camera cos I modded it and I didn't put GApps on it so no android webview thingy and deffo no google play services.

Battery's still good but it uses Micro-USB lmao. I have a ton of Micro-USB cables tho so it was no problem. Screen's still alright, it's just really fucking small for my big bear paws. Volume button's spotty though.

God, 10 years ago was pretty alright. Phones sucked, computer parts kinda sucked but they were pretty fucking affordable back then.

По личным ощущениям, индустрия планшетов потихоньку отошла на второй план у массовых пользователей. И речь сейчас про буквально все сегменты, от недорогих устройств на Android до всей линейки iPad. Эта история осталась актуальной для гораздо более узкой прослойки людей, как будто. Я же, в свою очередь, любил свой iPad сначала mini второго поколения (еще в студенческие годы), а затем и Air 2, который дожил до 2023 года, пока его случайно не разбила старшая дочь. Но вот как-то новый мне покупать не хотелось — я банально не нашел ни одной причины это делать по большей части. А недавно, разбирая шкафы в квартире родителей, я нашел артефакт — Samsung Galaxy Tab A8. Компактный, красивый и, что самое главное, рабочий.
