  1. We record our podcast on Zoom, which has a new feature to have AI summarize the meeting.

So I invited the Zoom AI to summarize an hour-long meeting with me and Rodney talking about The Wrath of Khan.

Four hours later the icon is still spinning with no AI summary yet.

  2. One week from today, our podcast drops about the Wrath of Khan.

We'll address the production details, but also the deep themes and Star Trek philosophy seen in the film.

It's a great time for a rewatch. Please plan to join us!

Our main podcast mission is about NEW Star Trek, but we don't expect anything new this year other than Strange New Worlds.

So, we're rewatching the Star Trek movies, about one every three weeks, until SNW comes along. We'll resume the movie rewatches when SNW concludes.

  3. Two weeks from today, we're podcasting about Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan (while we wait for the new SNW season).

It's a great time to rewatch, so the movie is fresh in your mind when you join us for the conversation about the production design, themes, and ethics.

  4. CW: #starTrekProdigy 1x06, #TWoK

I gotta confess to how deeply Star Trek II is rooted in my brain meats, though. Recognized Uhura's initial dialogue as being drawn directly from the opening scene. And, unrelated to the episode, but today I flipped to the classical radio station because the jazz station was too talky, heard one note, one, from two-thirds through the piece, and was like "oh, that's the ending theme from Star Trek 2" and yep, sure enough.

Wonder if I can still recite the movie entirely from memory.

  5. I can literally hear the original scene in my mind.

But then I've probably seen #TWoK thirty or more times.

  6. I'm watching the Wrath of Khan and this scene is fascinating given where we are at in #Picard. It is noteworthy that Savik was the captain of the original Titan in #StarTrek.

Here, Kirk, Savik, and party being aboard the #Enterprise while discussing the ruse between Spock and Kirk to confound Khan in #TWoK.

  7. The Enterprise encounters a sleeper ship full of GMO people from the eugenics wars of the 1990's. Khan and the GMOs take over the Enterprise, but in the end Kirk dumps them on Ceti Alpha V. Is this wild west cowboy diplomacy out of place in 2267? Why all the admiration for GMO people anyway? And how does Khan remember Chekov in #TWOK if Chekov wasn't even part of the cast yet?

  8. @5easypieces How fabulous. I've never seen Shatner in person, but imagine it was memorable.

    I *did* catch a screening of #TWOK in LA with a Nimoy Q&A in 2012, though! 🖖
