@peter I was stunned when I wentto X, just trying to follow what was going on with the whole Crowdstrike fiasco on Friday, and the entire thread was polluted with malware links that led to porn sites.
It was overwhelming. As much as I tried blocking and deleting them, there was just an absolute tidal wave of scum. #twitterisdead

I’ve pretty much given up on the dead bird site. Unless you pay for the highest subscription, you might as well write in a private journal.

ESPN did a bold move today and not posted anything from insane college football Saturday yesterday on X. And instead focused on other social like Threads, Instagram or other.
And so far, gotten just about same amount of engagement there also.
You don’t need a Twitter/X account to maintain your brand as athlete/student athlete. You can do it elsewhere.
Ask yourself: do you want your brand to be associated with antisemite?

With that being said, here’s a sports aspect of this:
Athletes, and especially student athletes in college (particularly those with NIL), here’s an advice.
Deactivate X or Twitter account now. Keeping that account is going to ruin your reputation in long run. Do what other advertisers did, (like Apple or Disney or IBM) and leave the site.
There’s other social like Instagram, or Threads or YouTube where you can show your social presence.

Tesla shareholders are very angry as well at Musk and is asking him to step down or sell his share. Musk will respond in kind by taking company private and shutting out shareholders.
He’s a dictator. He doesn’t care what other think about him. It’s all about him and him only and his agenda.
Honestly I hate to say this but I don’t see that site surviving all of 2024.

So here’s the thing:
I decided to “pause” on posting on X until further notice. But at this point, it might become permanent.
I said on announcement there that Musk needs to grow up and learn that free speech is not consequence free, and consequences for free speech is ALSO free speech.
But will he ever learn? Nope. Hate to say it but government intervention, either by IRS or Justice Department is the only of saving that site.

So... Elon Musk couldn't settle for just *figuratively* killing #Twitter; he had to actually go and remove the bird logo and change the app's name to "X." Woowoo, so edgy. Not to mention the fact that there are already multiple trademarks of "X" in various fields that touch what this new "everything app" wants to do.

Hier meine ich, die ersten Auswirkungen von #Threads zu sehen: Das sind einfach die Zugriffe aus #Twitter (grün) und über die Posts von @[email protected] (blau) auf heise.de nach Tagen/Stunden. Twitter lief #Mastodon da immer etwas voraus, aber seit Donnerstagnachmittag nicht mehr.
Mal sehen, wie es nach dem Wochenende weitergeht.

Während ich von der jüngsten Welle von Neuanmeldungen bei #Mastodon in den Zahlen von @heiseonline ja nichts sehen konnte, sieht es seit gestern so aus, als würde der #Traffic von #Twitter nun merklich zurückgehen.
Muss man natürlich noch beobachten. Aber es ist wohl nicht nur ein Eindruck, dass es auf Twitter merklich ruhiger geworden ist, seit #Threads (nicht in der EU) verfügbar ist.
