The #State Dept is using #ElonMusk’s playbook.

  12. …after Musk’s …takeover, #Beattie appeared on the podcast of #SteveBannon & called for #Musk to make internal emails from #Twitter management public.

One month later, Musk released the “#TwitterFiles” — a partial release of internal emails by #TwitterEmployees curated by Musk-friendly writers.

Kushners, Musk and all the Saudi royalty in the stands
I'm so glad that my friend @dangillmor always refers to #X as the Saudi-funded social media company.
I wonder what the writer of the #TwitterFiles, #MattTaibbi, have to say about this?
(Of course now it would be the X-Files & would be on #Substack for his 30,000 paid subscribers only )

  14. Matt Taibbi: Free speech, Elon & the Twitter files

    youtube.com/watch?v=imD-dAv26q

FIRE Executive Vice President Nico Perrino sits down with journalist Matt Taibbi for a live conversation at Freedom Fest 2023 in Memphis, Tennessee on free speech, social media, the Twitter files, Elon Musk, and the state of modern journalism.

  15. They also show that #Twitter’s ldrs were reluctant to take action against #Trump’s a/c 2 days after the #insurrection, even as lawyers inside the co argued that his cont’d praise of the #Capitol #rioters amounted to “glorification of violence,” an offense punishable then by #suspension under Twitter’s #rules.

  17. But the video & other newly obtained internal #Twitter recs show that, far from working to #censor pro-Trump sentiment in the days b4 the #Capitol #riot, the co’s ldrs were intent on leaving it up —despite internal #warnings that trouble was brewing.
#Congressional #Republicans, #Trump supporters & #Musk allies have condemned the co for #suspending Trump’s a/c in the riot’s aftermath, saying its employees were too quick to punish TFG bc of their #liberal #prejudice.

  19. One thing for sure is a fact:

Pre-Musk twitter never "censored" Trump for "political viewpoints" — which he doesn't have at all.
Neither did twitter ever even "censor" Trump for his antisocial, criminal statements — until it could no longer avoid it, on Jan 6, 2021 — when Trump had still a few days left to loaf around in White House.

So when anyone would idiotically try to suggest (like the bogus "twitter files", Trump, Musk & others do), that government interfered to have Trump's insurrectionary twitter account suspended, it would've been the then-Trump admin itself.
Which is of course bullshit, because the First Amendment says "NO, government, you can't forbid harmless free speech with your laws — but private corps can well do that!"
(While everyone knows, that Trump's utterances are NOT harmless at all, as proven by the consequences of all his tweets preceding his infamous Jan 6 insurrection rally near to the Capitol.)

  23. Right, because both are bullshit. Since the right can't come up with any actual evidence of malfeasance, they manufacture phony investigations filled with innuendo and implications, but ultimately no proof for the lofty allegations made. Then, they pretend these investigations are the smoking gun their base have been clamoring for. And their credulous, uncritical base just eats it up.

  24. We’d be a bit silly to pretend that #ElonMusk is a worse CEO of #Twitter than #ParagAgrawal was. Still, his improvements over his predecessor are a bit limited; he appears to be staunchly opposed to corruption, as evidenced by his cooperation in the #TwitterFiles and releasing the website’s algorithm on #GitHub. Still, between boosting his own content in #Twitter feeds exponentially, apparent silence on the #FoxNews / #Dominion lawsuit, and presumably biased reasons for including American publicans as “government-funded media” outlets, it’s pretty fair to say that he’s by no means less agenda-driven by his predecessor, his agenda is just different is all.

This is sort of like if #Trump sold #TruthSocial to #KaraSwisher.

  25. I love @mtaibbi but his work with the #TwitterFiles has always been a bit confusing. Paywalls, tweet threads and just muddled reporting perhaps. This article by @mmasnick breaks down why the idea of a #CensorshipIndustrialComplex is extremely overblown. I'd still love to have the two of them discuss this at length sometime.

  26. CW: Taibbi needs an editor

Now #Taibbi is out on a limb. He’s on his own, graduated from having an editor as far as we can tell, with a large following that defends him against criticism and tells him he’s great. That’s a precarious place to be. His reaction to having errors in his reporting pointed out since the #twitterfiles went live (and questions about his sourcing and independence) is to circle the wagons and conflate every criticism with the personal attacks. Bad place to be.

  30. Taibbi will no longer be doing any future Twitter Files reporting, it seems … a mass exodus of top birdsite content creators has begun; Musk’s decision to block Substack despite his claims of Free-Speech stands a good chance of ending twitter in the next 2 months #Taibbi #twitterfiles #twitter #musk

  31. @juddlegum

Mat Taibbi, the one who worked with Musk to promote deliberate disinformation about pre-Musk-Twitter (aka the #TwitterFiles), is getting bit in the face by Musk-Twitter's new policy.

Did Taibbi not know that Musk was part of the "Leopards Eating Faces" party? Or did he think that the Musk leopards would never eat his face?

And here is @mmasnick with another devastating takedown of the lying, grifting Substack bro Taibbi aka #MattyDickPics

*"There remains no there there. It’s less than a Potemkin village. There isn’t even a façade. This is the Emperor’s New Clothes for a modern era. Taibbi is pointing to a naked emperor and insisting that he’s clothed in all sorts of royal finery, whereas anyone who actually looks at the emperor sees he’s naked."*

Detailed takedown of Taibbi aka #MattyDickPics by @emptywheel

"As to the factual dispute, there is none. #MattyDickPics and his Elmo-whisperer Mike Benz are wrong. The error stems from either an inability to read an academic methodology statement or the ethic among these screencap boys that says you can make any claim you want so long as you have a screencap with a key word in it."

This is what Elon and his paid "journalists" including Taibbi, Weiss and Shellenberger are doing, trying to discredit how central the orange 🤡is to election disinformation in the US all while racking up those Substack subs and 💵s
