@rebekahtromble @intelwire it appears #EMuskovy does not want researchers to have visibility in how #Twitter is being used/abused. Now you need the be a nation state, large corp or criminal entity that can afford to “pay to play” in order to exploit the sheep who have decided to stay and are willlling to be fleeced in order to have more followers (most of which are bots/trolls)! What a sad joke…

We calculated the Twitter reach of the #bots we tracked at the link below which have migrated to Mastodon ahead of the 2/9 free API shutdown.
Collectively that list has the reach of over 3.2 million followers. I suspect many will post on the 9th about the bots living on in the Fediverse.

I wrote a Twitter bot a few years ago that listened to the #HamRadio DX Cluster for International Marconi Day stations, and tweeted their frequencies as they were heard. It’s @IMDwatcher.. I haven’t activated it for a few years, but if I do again, I’ll port it to Mastodon first. #TwitterBots

Ah, so now he wants you to produce free content for his dying, unstable platform, after threatening you, on a whim, to shut off your free access. I see.
In response, I will be discontinuing all my projects that rely on Twitter's API, and I advise you all to do the same, rather than let him decide their fate.

Such BS, do not fall for this. The fact that he can change the rules on a whim is enough of a reason to continue with your plans to migrate your bots away from Twitter's unstable platform.
Probably best to just turn your bots off and not let this guy decide their fate.

One of the first #Twitter accounts I ever followed was a bot that announced whenever a particular drawbridge in England was raising and what boat it was raising for. It’s honestly one of the reasons I stuck with Twitter in the early days — I was just very charmed by this insight into a mundane happening on the opposite side of the world. Without silly little #TwitterBots like that one, Twitter loses even more of what little remains of its tattered and fragmented soul

In November 2015 I created https://botwiki.org, a site primarily built around creative Twitter bots. It was truly heartbreaking to see Elon Musk take over Twitter and immediately start destroying the hard work of so many people and the legacy of what they built.
And now, with his decision to end free access to Twitter's API, Botwiki is sadly fulfilling one of its stated goals.
