Twinkies fritos: El postre que desafía a la salud

Si hay un icono de la comida procesada en Estados Unidos, es el Twinkie. Se dice que estos pastelitos rellenos de crema pueden durar décadas sin echarse a perder, pero en las ferias estatales decidieron llevarlos al extremo: los fríen. El proceso es simple pero letal: congelan el Twinkie, lo sumergen en una masa para pasteles y lo lanzan a la freidora hasta que queda dorado y crujiente por fuera, mientras que el interior se convierte en una crema caliente y viscosa.

Este invento se hizo famoso a principios de los años 2000 y desde entonces es una parada obligatoria para los valientes. Lo curioso es que, al freírlo, el pastelito prácticamente se deshace y se fusiona con la masa, creando una bomba de azúcar y grasa que contiene alrededor de 420 calorías en apenas unos mordiscos. Es el ejemplo perfecto de cómo una golosina sencilla puede transformarse en un exceso cultural que solo existe por el placer de decir "lo hicimos porque pudimos".

It didn't taste like Twinkies but a sweeter version of kettle corn.

I grew up with a corner store that got fresh Twinkies, some with "smiles."

Sadly, the Twinkies have not smiled in decades and they never will again.
