Thanks to mechanical boat gremlins, I’ve ended up stuck in NI for the Twelfth. I just walked from the marina into town - it’s like they’re expecting a typhoon, or possibly zombies. Most restaurants & takeaways closed and shuttered at 8pm, even the ice cream parlours, supermarket already shut.
Anywhere else, a public holiday is a celebration and businesses stay open late…

I mean, pretty contrasting week? Respectful of both traditions, one of these crowds felt more like home for me. But maybe that's just because I'm au fait with the world of sport?

But I must admit I found my experience of the Twelfth in Belfast was positive, and crowds were in better form than last year.

I always tend to want to observe things, sometimes it's as simple as that.
