The #BBC and the #TVLicense are the scummiest parts of Britain right now.
Now they are trying to mandate #YouTube into suggesting their videos.
I will be blocking them wherever I can. Nothing but #propaganda no better than RT news..

There is particularly annoying about services that allows you to sign up, pay and use the service fully online.... only to require you to phone them if you want to cancel.
Todays culprit is the TV license people.

What is this nonsense?
I've never had a TV license, which means I've never set up a direct debit with them and especially at my current address.
Unless someone has tried to set one up in my name...

Did the quiz at https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/check-if-you-need-one to see if I needed a TV licence - and I don’t. Genuinely do not.
Had to call a human to cancel and got quite the quiz and ‘BBC Upsell’ but it’s now cancelled.
£185/yr saved.

I can't decide if this is a good attempt at email phishing, or a complete idiot thought it was a good idea to enable click tracking in the mail with some shitty unknown provider.
https://s1so7.mjt.lu/lnk/EAAAByoNL7wAA...... doesn't exactly look legit does it?
(The license number and expiry date are accurate, but for all I know, the tv licensing people could have had a data breach).

Awww they ran out of red angry letters and went back to the green ones. #TVLicenceFee #tvlicenceletter #tvlicense

What's this ? Oh, the periodic missive from TV Licensing for the UK.
No, nothing has changed, I still don't use any service in a manner that would require me to have a license.
Go to website... error page about the whole site being temporarily unavailable.
So now, rather than this being a 2 minute job I'm tasked with checking back once an hour, day, whatever, to ensure they don't decide to harass me further.
Part of me wonders if they've been a target of a cyberattack, or if it's just incompetence.

Just out of curiosity, do you pay for your tv license? Only applies to UK folks, sadly!

If the #tory party wants to interfere with the impartiality of the #bbc then they should stop asking us to pay for the #TVLicense
-
Genuinely looking into if I can cancel my #TVLicense given the disgrace that is the #BBC.
The challenge is my lease says I have to pay the license whilst I'm here. Let's be very clear, the TV License funds the BBC only - nothing else.
I'd gladly have an ad-supported iPlayer experience.
-
@wulfgold Top tip - on the cancellation request page, if you just go back using your browser, the feedback form will pop up, regardless if you cancel (or even had a tv license to begin with). You can do this as many times as you want 😉

I didn't recognize the name, but when I Googled I recognized the face.
I usually only see his highlights on #Newslaundry #Newsance https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLpHbno9djTOSaBHKTrtbsKkn6MDUujQxX
Today he had some good (or possibly bad?) news for anyone in the UK who doesn't want to pay their #TVLicense lol

I love how you can mute words and hashtags on most social media platforms. Right now I’d happily pay extra on my #TVLicense to be able to block any mention of our #royalFamily on #BBCNews. I’m absolutely fed up of hearing about all the backstabbing and drama. Worse, it always goes out at the top, like they think there is absolutely nothing more newsworthy going on in the world 🤨

So they're scrapping the #TVLicense and predictably #celebrity bores who work for the #BBC are warning we will miss it when it's gone.
It's win-win for the right. With no license fee the BBC doesn't have to pretend to be remotely impartial and private companies can move in to profit more from it.
I read a couple of @TheCanary articles but I won't bother sharing because they're mostly tweets and say little of value.
I literally watch around 2 BBC programme PER YEAR. Other than that I avoid it!

Why are computer monitors more expensive than equivalent size TV screens? It largely has to do with pixel density and latency
It's a question that comes up more and more in South Africa especially as South Africa requires a state TV license to be paid annually if a TV set is owned (even if you have no antenna or don't watch any of the state TV channels). Many users nowdays just stream Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, Showmax or other services to a large screen. So many are seeking large screens without any TV tuner installed (yes VCRs with tuners also need a license but most don't use them anymore).
The sad part is that an equivalent size monitor is much more expensive than it's TV counterpart. So yes, unfortunately most monitors are made to much lower latencies (eg. 1ms for gaming) and greater pixel density for gaming. But for watching streaming movies this may be over specification. https://squeet.me/objects/962c3e1047196f89293284a312e4a4972ac839d6
