  1. So the Beeb update the "what has the BBC ever done for me?" thing which worked originally with John Cleese because it was a Python Reference. Not sure this one wins me over. Very long. You'll not win me over with Eastenders. #BBC #TVLicence #UK #TV youtu.be/w-xEzaW3VsA?si=IPBhmY

  2. The latest figures for those no longer paying for a TV licence is circa 539,000 people up from 300,000 last year. If the licence fee is £180 then I make that a loss of £97 million per annum. #TVLicence #TV #UK

  3. Further thoughts on the now back on the table notion of adding payment for the TV licence onto council tax. I read one pull-apart that suggested this could be combined with a reform of council tax that would be based around a land tax meaning for a lot of people in modest homes could then see their the council tax almost halved or cut by a third thus making adding the #TVLicence cost an easier pill to swallow.
Best of luck getting that one through quickly. Very needed. #UK #TV

  4. Free #TV licences for pensioners & those who reach official retirement age

Many pensioners live on the breadline with only TV for company

With cost of #food soaring, utility #bills ever higher, we feel there's desperate need to provide all pensioners with at least this concession

We feel it's a double outrage those who gave their all to our country in taxes, raising children have to pay licence fee

  5. People in UK should stop paying TV licence which only funds the BBC and their own pro-Israel-US narrative.

They do make it difficult for you to do so, and may require a phone conversation with an operator who will try to corner you whatever you say.

Just prepare yourself for 5 minutes and make sure you never admit watching live TV, being on terrestrial, satellite, or even streaming.

No live TV = No TV licence.

Say no to fund these gov scumbags.

  6. The UK TV Licence debate is heating up again, and the BBC’s YouTube partnership makes it even messier. If BBC content is made for YouTube audiences first, what does that do to the licence fee argument and the idea of a universal public service broadcaster?

Also, a useful clarification for people arguing in the replies: you do not need a TV Licence for on-demand YouTube videos, but you do need one to watch live TV on YouTube.

  7. Looks like it is time to do the old "I don't need a TV licence" declaration.
    Still don't.

  8. The TV licence is going to go up to £181. I'm so glad I don't buy one.

  9. TV Licence Scaremongering
It's that time again where I have to certify that I promise not to watch broadcast TV.

Although they do try very hard to make me click the wrong button

Its like Amazon and their attempts at tricking us into buying Prime.

And then once the relevant form is filled in, you get this email

"If any of your circumstances change, such as you start watching live TV".

  10. Those freebies the Labour Front Bench keep getting will be just the tonic for this upsetting news, we can all be happy that the Front Bench are having fun at pop concerts and their pets are being looked after while they're 'hard' at work....

  11. Meanwhile, you can still sign up for #SABCPlus without a TV licence. And SABC Plus is actually good. Catch-up for #SABC shows like Masterchef and Wheel of Fortune.

That just makes no sense to me. So many people don't have access to watch SABC the traditional way even if they wanted to, so they have to rely on #streaming, and SABC Plus lets them do that. But they don't ask for your #TVLicence number to sign up.

So you don't need one to sign up for their own streaming service, but they'd like you to need one to sign up for Netflix? Really?

P.S. I pay my TV licence. Always have. I feel like the spirit of the thing is that if you consume any content created by the SABC (watching their videos, listening to their radio stations, reading their news articles, even following them on social media), then it is good and right and proper that, if you can afford it, you should pay. It's a way of keeping the state broadcaster afloat so that all those poor and marginalised people who CAN'T afford to pay, and for whom the SABC is potentially their only connection to the outside world and their only source of entertainment, still get to enjoy it.

But come on now, SABC. Get your own house in order first. :-D

  12. CW: Sort of politics re UK TV licence fee

Do leave off. Suggestion of a TV licence based on property values ffs.
Bit unfair for renters (same issue as council tax). Why is this guys opinion still sought anyway? #UK #TVLicence #BBC #tax

  13. TV licence change to help struggling BBC customers

    devonlive.com/news/devon-news/

    #TVLicence #BBC #CostOfLiving

How about scrapping the whole thing? Why should those who never watch the BBC have to pay for it? It's so yesterday.

No, I wouldn't welcome advertising, which I guess would be the only viable alternative.

A subscription of £10 per month would be best, then only those who use it pay for it.

Every system of financing has its fors and againsts.

  14. Got a refund from the TV Licensing people!

A completely non-serious bit of waffle about me sticking it to the man.
