Fuck... Animal control just called me to say that Tux's injuries weren't too bad, but his bladder was full of urine and urine crystals, an extremely painful condition. Because he's a wild cat and the only way to treat him was to keep him locked up and on a strict diet -which would have been equally miserable for him- they decided the only humane option was to euthanize him.

I fully understand the decision, but I was not prepared for this. 😭 Rest easy little buddy 💔

Okay so first the good news: he's trapped! The bad news is that the humane society closed 3 hours ago and the earliest I can call them to pick him up (as per their instructions) is 9 am tomorrow. He is freaking out and he will have to stay in here for more than 12 hours, poor baby. 😭

We covered the cage with an old towel, to hopefully calm him a bit (also per instructions) and we'll see if we can find a way to get him some water later.

Tux has been fighting again, so he came back to his safe haven to lick his wounds (which is a pattern I've noticed with him) His mama was seeking shelter from the recent stormy weather, so they're keeping each other company. It's adorable that they still do this when one of them is feeling low, But I also wish neither of them were feeling low.

Life for stray cats can get pretty shitty tbh, that's why we keep our own cats indoors.

Yay, Tux finally showed up again, I hadn't seen him in a few weeks I think. He did show up last week when I wasn't home, my husband fed him. But I was happy to see him today, he got some wet food and he chilled out on the porch for a while after he had eaten. The hissing still hasn't lessened 😁

Attempt number...? I lost count. Mama stopped sleeping in her shelter somewhere last week. As it turns out, her butthead son had been peeing all over it to mark his territory. 🤡 So now I've cleaned everything, added fresh straw, made a pee-barrier out of garbage bags and then treated everything with pheromone spray. It just reached freezing temperatures here so fingers crossed! These cats sure keep me busy 😝

I went to feed Tux around his usual time, but mama was right at the back door screaming at me for (more) food. (She was fed this morning). So I went and filled two bowls to make sure she'd leave some for Tux.

As mama and I walked to the back of the garden, I noticed he was following us unusually closely. And then I put the food down and suddenly he was sitting right in front of me. Looks like his mama is setting a good example after all. ♥️

So, I finally have some progress to report on the feral cat situation! The official TNR instance for our municipality actually answered this time. They said they'll try to come out and trap #MamaLemon and #TuxTheCat as soon as they can, but they are also way over capacity at the moment so there's still going to be a waiting list.

The good news is they're finally ON that waiting list now.

The first thing I saw when I came downstairs this morning was mama Lemon looking at me through the window, wondering why breakfast was taking so long 🤣 While she was yelling and hissing at me I suddenly heard another meow, and as I looked up I saw a startled Tux scampering away again.
