Este ejemplar pertenece al grupo de Tulipanes Rembrandt, cuyos pétalos presentan como estrías o llamas de otro color debido a un virus transmitido por el pulgón, lo que produjo que se aumentara el precio de esta variedad por su exotismo, siendo una de las causas de la #tulipomanía del s. XVII en Países Bajos, de la que tanto nos acordamos cuando se produjo el boom de los NFTs. -

@cohanf LOL, I've done the same with #Tulipa sprengeri (because Tulipa tarda seems to be able to propagate itself that way) — with nothing to show for it so far.
I didn't know the #Castilleja until now. Such beautiful plants. Do you know the species of the one you've been sowing?
I notice that Castilleja is in the #Broomrape family. I've had success with Ivy-Broomrape, #Orobanche hederae, that is now growing on the Ivy that is covering a long wall. But Castilleja seems to have chlorophyll and everything, so it's not a parasite like its cousin, the Ivy-Broomrape, is it? -
2/2 _Childs' Fall Catalogue of Bulbs, Plants and Seeds 1897_, Outside Front Cover (NB misregistration error). 'Globe de Rigaud' seems to have disappeared and was prob one of the diseased purples that were so popular. Remarkably, all the others still seem to be in cultivation - 'Silver Standard' is quite gorgeous.

1/2 Doing a bit of scanning/retouching today. @karmaso this may be relevant to your interests: _Mayflower_ mag, 1894-09, Pl 50, Bybloom and Bizard Tulips. I can't find info on these tulips < 100 y o, and they appear to be streaked and flamed consistent with Tulip Break Disease, so I'm thinking the disease did its thing and weakend the strains to extinction.
