I wish the TTC had designated spots for bicycles on subway cars.
Generally, I try to get the back or front car, and situate myself in the inactive doorway at the very front or back. This way, I'm not blocking anyone. And I'm not obstructing access to any seats.
However, last night I ended up in a few cars from the end. And there was another bike occupying the disabled seats section. So, I kept my bike at an angle in the nonactive doorway, to not block anyone and to not block any seats (disabled or otherwise). My bike was not touching the door.
The train stopped moving. And there were announcements about a doorway blockage.
Is this me? So I moved beside the other cyclist, and was now blocking the disabled seats on the other side. The train moved.
I saw some guy staring at me and pointing his cell phone at me.
Ugh. I felt like I had committed some hatecrime in an Orwellian dystopia.
It shouldn't take 20 minutes to travel 5 stops, but here we are! #ttc
@transit - so, basically, the old Scarborough LRT before TTC and the province (and most especially the Bros Ford) allowed it to fail into collapse.
Never to be what its cousin - Vancouver's Skytrain - is.
Still waiting on the three stop subway to nowhere as flogged by El Fordo...

Having a loop for a line makes it possible to have a rapid transit detour around for emergency incidents. We saw it in action yesterday afternoon (no through trains, unfortunately).
I still wish we had that for the Sheppard Line 4 in Toronto. Line 1 interruptions would be way less painful, as they are too often currently. (Eglinton Crosstown Line 5 helps a bit, at least)
