Technically speaking, #Tsurune S2 is likely an anime that got the least amount of work by the end of 2019, if any at all. And if Kobayashi S2 isn't a good enough sign that #KyotoAnimation is back; #TsuruneS2 sure as shit must be the sign that #KyoAni has NOT gone anywhere.
Season 1 was a basic sports story - a team getting assembled, a dude struggling with the Yips, Kazemai being the underdog going into the prefectural tournament; pretty basic stuff, done pretty well.
Season 2 goes off and fleshes out everyone that we know; it then introduces new characters, and then fleshes them out too; and then goes off and gives us a REALLY amazing sports story. From showing us more of the team's struggles and victories, showing the beauty of archery (with Sae seemingly as a stand in for outsiders to archery), Nikaidou and Tsujimine's presence in this season being really well done and being a very interesting and intriguing third horse in Tsurune against the upstart Kazemai and Kirisaki juggernauts, Ryouhei and Shuu getting more development, the Sugawara twins turning from fleshed out characters people can empathize with instead of being the basic heels from S1, the entire saga between Nanao and Kacchan, the girls of Kazemai getting a chance to shine throughout the show, more additions to the story of Seiya and Minato, to the kyuudo matches being as hype as ever.
Genuinely, Tsurune S2 does SO MUCH right, that it beckons anyone who hasn't watched Tsurune yet to give it a chance! I swear, it is SO much more than just "Free, but Archery", and there's so much excitement waiting in store for you.
