Meanwhile, majorities of 57 and 60 per cent, respectively, supported tariffs on China and Russia. Ekins explained that U.S. voters seemed willing to accept tariffs when the duties are framed as a national-security tool against adversaries, not in trade with close allies."

  5. Kevin Breuninger reports Trump's latest global tariffs are already facing a major court showdown. President Trump's near-global tariff policy, affecting 86 countries, is challenged in federal court by small businesses and Democratic-led states. Plaintiffs argue the forced-labor justification is a pretext to revive a previously struck-down tariff regime, citing lack of required country-specific findings. This case highlights tensions between executive trade power and legal limits. Read the full story to understand this critical legal battle. 15. @RuthODay2
Based on what we've learnt from reports, Premier Ford's opposition was one of the reasons the PM rejected the deal with the Trump Administration. If that's true, then I think #DougFord was a valuable part of the negotiations.

In any case, isn't this decision by Premier Eby more cynical than what Mr. Ford did?

  17. @NMBA
The #TrumpTariffs are obviously bad for Canada, but it's equally obvious that #MarkCarney's poll numbers rise when Canadians see him as standing up against the US.

As for the #NationalPost, I've been reading it since the 1990s. Their editorial line hasn't really changed, supporting normal #conservative policies like free trade, rule of law and NATO, unlike the Trump Administration. There are MAGA sympathisers in Canada, but not the *NP*.

  19. Betrayal in the Heartland: How Trump’s Policies Are Crushing the Farmers Who Voted for Him

Tariffs, escalating conflicts, and soaring closures reveal a painful economic reality for American agriculture. by Winston Wendell In the 2024 presidential election, farmers in America voted overwheming for Donald Trump, betting that the president would stand by their interests. However, an objective review of Trump’s activity as a president demonstrates that his policies have diverged significantly from the interests of the rural population. The president’s support for free trade […]
