You can read the full judgment in #TrudiWarner’s important victory over the Solicitor General here. It confirms the principle of #juryequity and acknowledges that the difference between it being a “right” and a “power”, as put forward by the SG, is essentially a non-argument. #Righttoprotest #ClimateCrisis #TrialByJury

Today a letter signed by 300 people was delivered to Robert Courts, the solicitor general. Following actions across the country in 2023, including outside Oxford Crown Court, it requests that he prosecutes the signatories if he persists with prosecuting Trudi Warner.
Trudi Warner was arrested for standing outside Inner London Crown Court with a sign containing the same words as a plaque in the Old Bailey.

In a democratic society, we should have the right to hold a placard in protest, without fear of imprisonment. Read more about those standing with #TrudiWarner https://goodlawproject.org/hundreds-copy-trudi-warners-banner-in-backlash-against-solicitor-general/

Trudi Warner, is facing up to two years in prison for holding a placard. We should all be outraged to learn that this is happening in a supposedly democratic society like the UK.

The Bushel case of 1670, celebrated in a plaque in the Old Bailey, was that of two Quakers, William Mead and William Penn. Back then, nice middle-class liberals actually stood for something, and they wouldn't give up.
Sir Edward Davey take note.
I applaud those standing today in solidarity with Trudi Warner.

Members of a jury have the absolute, unfettered right to decline to be the executioners of unjust laws.
The point of the exercise *should* be to introduce humanity to a system otherwise perfectly designed to repress, intimidate and make an example of deviants and rebels, and by extension the rest of us.
Otherwise, all the jury system does is ensure that lots more people are walking around with blood on their hands.

The idea that #TrudiWarner could be jailed is absolutely disgraceful, but possibly not quite as disgraceful as this, from the same judge: environmental protestors actually sent to prison in March for telling jurors in their trial *why* they were protesting.
A judge might consider the point legally irrelevant, but the jury has an absolute right to consider it and acquit, as the jury in Bushel’s Case did for Quakers Penn and Mead (Penn being the founder of #Pennsylvania )

68yo #TrudiWarner is being prosecuted for contempt of court for holding a sign informing jurors of their right to acquit on conscience, outside a trial of environmental protestors at Inner London Crown Court.
If the trial had been held at the Central Criminal Court, (the #OldBailey ) 1.5 miles north, jurors would have been able to read the plaque outside telling them about this right and its origin in Bushel’s Case, 1670.

@goodlawproject are helping #TrudiWarner defend herself against a charge of 'contempt of court' for holding up a placard that 'reminded' jurors of a rights established in law in 1670.
the placard read: 'Jurors: you have an absolute right to acquit a defendant according to your conscience'!
We seem to live in a society where even stating the law is regarded as a contempt if it does not follow the Govt's preferred narrative on how the #ruleoflaw works
Authoritarianism?
