  1. Blasts from the past!

I just found my *TRS-80 Model 100 Portable Computer* (to give it its full name) in a box while attempting to do some de-cluttering. I thought I'd lost this computer in one of my many moves. I did quite a bit of my PhD (writing mostly but also some coding and, of course, connecting to the university systems via its built-in 300 baud modem) using this wee computer. I have some fond memories of using this computer.

Must find some AA batteries and see if it still works. No reason why it shouldn't?

I also found my first "proper" laptop, a Toshiba T1000SE. I used to use this in my 1 hour each way daily rail commute to work in Scotland.

I wonder what else I'll find?

Question now: what do I do with these computers? Suggestions welcome!

  6. The Tandy Portable Computer 100, was a pioneering portable computer released in 1983 by RadioShack, part of Tandy Corporation. We were programming a quiz game in BASIC on it, designed to challenge you with questions about our museum and its history. 📠💻

  9. The TRS-80 Model 100 - Released 40 years ago today! I bought a used one a while back, and probably last used it in the late 90s. I found it in a box in the basement recently, put new batteries in it, and it still works! (It only allows a 2-digit year, though, so it displays the year as 1923!)

  10. Character set is nice (I might have missed some there)

Tested on batteries (4xAA), and power adapter, both work fine.

Looks okay inside, replaced 5 iffy electrolytic caps, will need to go back to change the NiCad battery

Needs a good cleanup, especially the keyboard

    Overall I'm happy 😁

  11. And now having just learned about the Model 200 I'm afraid I'm going to want that too eventually 😭

  12. After flipping through the manual: wow the BASIC seems pretty good on that thing.

    Keyboard feels nice too.

  13. TRS-80 Model 100: Got!

    It looks like it works!
Keyboard works, num lock is a bit sticky.
    Dirty as eww.
Will do a thorough inspection later.

  14. Bonus update: the TRS-80 Model 100 gains some onscreen text and! it's running LibROM, the custom ROM I created for it. (Grab it here if you have a UK machine and want to run US software, and/or want built-in disk access, etc.: sarahkmarr.com/retromodel100.h.)

  15. #introduction! I:

    - wrote a novel called "All the Perverse Angels", which people say has merit: #art, #artHistory, #victoriana, #poetry, #swinburne, love, loss, etc.

    - focus on #hauntology, with sidelines in #folkHorror, #folklore & g-g-g-g-#ghosts

    - do #photography with #fujifilm cameras

    - compose #electronicMusic with an orchestral slant

    - enjoy #retrocomputing: website has custom ROM for the #TRS80Model100, cross-platform terminal-based simulator of HP-45 #calculator, code for #Z80 CP/M.
