  1. The Commodore PET 2001, the Apple II and the TRS-80 Model I were called the "1977 trinity" by Byte magazine in 1995.

Almost 50 years later, which one stands out as the most iconic?

  3. I've improved the #AgonLight implementation of Daniel Martin's #TRS-OS to make a more authentic #trs80 experience. The main thing I wanted to improve was the display capabilities. Steps taken (with thanks) to get the authentic output:
    1. Obtain + fix the correct font
    2. Load the font into #Agon
    3. Modify the VDP to allow buffered fonts in Terminal mode
    4. Modify the bootstrap and terminal host software to support the new code and use all 8 bits.
    5. Check out before and after

  4. In other joyous news, neo-Nazi Joseph Jordan, aka "Eric Striker", has left both the inaptly named National Justice Party (NJP) and the affiliated The Right Stuff (TRS) network. He's not leaving because he's had a change of heart or become a good Nazi (RIP). It's because of some undisclosed "difference of opinion". I don't really follow that crew too closely, but there's a lot more detail at the link below (sorry for linking to the birdapp, but right now it's the only place where a reliable source has spilled this much useful info).

Jordan/Striker was a marquee name for that clique (albeit also a widely disliked figure among many others on the broader white nationalist/neo-Nazi spectrum), so his departure will definitely be a loss for them in terms of PR as well as revenue. But more than that, the inevitable Nazi infighting is really wrecking their infrastructure and the capacity of any of the people involved to make a decent living. I'll say it for about the 800th time: no one hates a Nazi like other Nazis.

I think I found a scanned version of the book I was thinking about.

It's from @internetarchive and it was written in 1979,the year of my birth.

I was in front of a TRS-80 with this book and not really knowing what I was supposed to do with it at about 5 or 6 years old.

Here's the link for anyone interested.

  9. Finally got time to work on this new (to me) #NEC #PC-8201 ... not the A version, this one's from #Japan.

It's DOA, but nice and clean inside. No obvious leaking or corrosion. Memory battery was starting to green up so I pulled that. Still dead.

Then started grabbing voltages on the power supply. Good power from both the AC and DC, but beyond that, proper values are suspiciously low or absent.

The #TRS-80 #Model100 service manual suggests replacing a few capacitors when this DOA condition exists. And since they're very similar units made by the same company, I think I'll see how I can bridge that knowledge over to this one. Obviously the labels will be different, what else? Who knows, but...

I have somewhere to start :) First I think I'll map out the caps and replace those.

Recent investigations by news outlets show large-scale voter suppression is afoot at Bengaluru in Karnataka, where assembly elections will be held soon. If the EC is not held accountable now, soon it will be too late.
