I really like the storytelling in Wayward. It does a great job of showing why a cult is appealing, and how its followers are regular, well-meaning people who simply get manipulated into hurting people. It humanizes the cult leader and shows her reasoning in a realistic and sympathetic way, without letting you get too comfortable there. It shows how easy it is for a cult to seem appealing. It shows how close a cult can come to the promise of a real utopia, if only...
It also shows how therapy culture can be weaponized. Because the cult's doctrines speak to liberal / left values, you can really feel how easy it could be to get taken in, especially if you couldn't see everything going on in the background like we as the viewers can.

Its sad but true that I left r/TroubledTeens on #Reddit a long time ago because some people were helping #ParisHilton spread the lie that the #TroubledTeenIndustry started with #cults in the 70's not religious fascists in the UK, Astralia, Canada, and the US and with indigenous schools.

I may or may not watch it. Personally I get really irritated with people who try to change history or white wash it. I've been very outspoken in the #TroubledTeenIndustry about our need to include #BoardingSchool survivors and have pushed back against this false narrative for many years.
