Troppo (Serie, Krimi/Drama, USA/Australien 2022)
Der abgeschriebene Ex-Polizist Ted Conkaffey (Thomas Jane) wird fälschlicherweise eines schrecklichen Verbrechens beschuldigt. Als er in die Wildnis von Far North Queensland flieht, gerät er dort an die exzentrischen Privatdetektivin Amanda Parell (Nicole Chamoun). Gemeinsam begeben sich die beiden Ermittler auf die Spuren eines rätselhaften Mordes: Mitten im Krokodilgebiet wurde ein Hightech-Spezialisten aus Korea gefunden - zumindest Teile von ihm.
Hitze, Feuchtigkeit und totale Abgeschiedenheit von der Zivilisation. In dieser australischen Crime-Drama-Serie ist der Handlungsort, der tropische Norden Queenslands, nicht nur Folie, sondern auch zentrales erzählerisches Element. So ambivalent düster wie das ungewöhnliche Ermittler-Duo nach Candice Fox’ Romanvorlage “Crimson Lake” verbindet auch die Serie ihren klassischen Krimiplot mit Noir‑Elementen und allerhand schwarzem Humor, während sie in die Abgründe der Kleinstadt Crimson Lake entführt.
Korruption, Gewalt, Rassismus und lang gehütete Geheimnisse kommen ans Licht. Es geht in “Troppo” nicht nur um Verbrechen, sondern auch um Schuld, Trauma und die Unmöglichkeit, der eigenen Vergangenheit zu entkommen. Dabei überzeugen neben der Atmosphäre vor allem die gebrochenen Hauptfiguren und die ernsthafte Einbindung indigener Perspektiven. Wer charaktergetriebenes Erzählen schätzt, findet hier eine ungewöhnliche Genrevariation zum Mitfiebern.
Die in ihrer Jugend wegen Mordes verurteilte und jetzt als Privatdetektivin arbeitende Amanda Pharrell bittet den in Ungnade gefallenen Ex-Polizisten Ted Conkaffey, ihr bei der Aufklärung ihres ersten echten Falls zu helfen: dem Verschwinden eines koreanischen Familienvaters und technologischen Superhirns.
