I just watched Tron: Ares. It was pleasant to have a movie that didn't require subtitles, as in I could very easily hear the speech.
It felt strange to see a Tron movie without Daft Punk, but I got over it fairly soon.
If you're into sci-fi, I recommend this movie as well as Tron: Legacy. If you haven't seen either, watch Legacy first.

The more I see clips from Predator: Badlands, the more I regret not going to the movie theater to see it.
But I'm glad I went to see Tron: Ares despite it not selling well. I loved that movie!

I've been a NIN fan for decades, but it's still strange listening to what is clearly a soundtrack album, and for a movie I'm probably never going to see.
(Also the NIN page on Bandcamp seems to have been taken down, but I can still get to this album through my wishlist.)

Of course, the film isn’t perfect.
In Tron: Legacy, Sam goes into Flynn’s abandoned arcade and turns on the lights. And I thought “Who’s been paying the electricity bill for the last 18 years?” In Ares, the arcade is still abandoned, with a secret room that still has power and a working laser. This is the most unrealistic part of the film. A parallel world inside a computer is more believable than an abandoned urban building that sits around for 43 years without being made into a condo.

Well, I finally watched “Tron: Ares”. The three Tron films sort of bracket my career; the first one came out in 1982, when I was just starting University. It was one of the films that inspired me to study computer graphics there. After I graduated my second job was working at Alias Research where I spent a decade working on one of the major CGI/VFX platforms that was used to create “Tron: Legacy” (which came out in 2010). I eventually retired after a long career in CGI, and now in retirement get to watch “Tron: Ares”. 43 year span.
And I know I might get blasted for saying this, but in my opinion Ares is the best of the three films. I started watching it expecting it to be the usual lame second-sequel crap, but was pleasantly surprised. Compared to the previous two films, the characters have more depth and more interesting relationships, and the production design and VFX are just beautiful. Plus, it had a more interesting plot. And Gillian Anderson. I understand that some people have Opinions about Jared Leto, but I know nothing about his personal life, so I do not.
Of course, what it lacks is the emotional glow of nostalgia and the novelty of the original production design, but – it’s a sequel.

Tonight’s movie was Tron: Ares. Can’t really understand all the hate (yeah, I know, Leto is not the most liked person around, story arc was changed, Sam&Quorra were left out, blah blah). Is it a direct sequel to Legacy? No. So what? Still a solid 8 🤷🏼♂️☺️
The only negative is that with the box office performance, I have a feeling we’ll have to wait a loooong time for a fourth Tron, if it’ll ever be made.

20 minutes in, and I ... hate? Yes, hate. I hate the music. It sounds like a modern take of a 60's horror movie, with an occasional beat.
Please, gods of entertainment, I'm begging you: Let the rest of it be good. I can tolerate the music (though I hope it improves) but only if the movie lives up to its promise.

Halfway through. I've had to mentally filter out the music. Gohd but it's terrible. The bits with beat aren't too bad, but the background/atmospheric stuff is ... just stuff.
EDIT2:
Finished. A most unsatisfying movie. A cute callback to TRON, and one "Ooh, mysterious" sideways hint to TRON:Legacy, but the whole storyline of Legacy was ignored.
The music (Ugh!) got worse; more atonic noise and much more intrusive, to the point where dialogue was only understood to be happening because the actor's mouths were moving.
3/10 Will not watch again (unlike T and T:L, which I will watch back-to-back quite happily).

#Dune2 was good. Don't if it's plan ed but but I'm still waiting for them to release #Dune3. If they shoot it, I hope they release it before I die.🙏
Didn't like what i saw of #TronAres so I didn't watch it at the theater but am going to buy the DVD just to complete the set.
No interest in the other 2. 🤷

Bilheterias | Halloween marca o pior fim de semana do ano nos EUA; “O Telefone Preto 2” lidera mais uma vez
O Halloween trouxe um verdadeiro susto às bilheterias norte-americanas. Sem grandes estreias e com o feriado caindo numa sexta-feira — quando boa parte das famílias preferiu sair para pedir doces ou travessuras —, a arrecadação de ingressos despencou. Entre sexta e domingo, o total somou apenas US$ 43 milhões, marcando o pior fim de semana do ano, segundo dados da Comscore.
O resultado encerra um outubro historicamente fraco, com US$ 425 milhões arrecadados no total doméstico — o pior desempenho para o mês em 27 anos, desde outubro de 1997, quando os cinemas somaram US$ 385 milhões (sem ajuste pela inflação). O dado exclui 2020, ano em que as salas ainda não haviam se recuperado totalmente da pandemia.
Tradicionalmente um mês de transição para produções com ambições ao Oscar, outubro em 2025 decepcionou: títulos como “Coração de Lutador”, estrelado por Dwayne Johnson, o drama “Depois da Caçada”, de Luca Guadagnino, “Tron: Ares”, da Disney, e “Springsteen: Salve-Me do Desconhecido” não conseguiram despertar o interesse do público.
“O Telefone Preto 2” mantém força mesmo
Em uma disputa acirrada, “O Telefone Preto 2”, da Universal Pictures e Blumhouse, conquistou o topo das bilheterias com US$ 8,3 milhões em 3.305 salas — apenas US$ 100 mil à frente de “Se Não Fosse Você” (Regretting You), da Paramount Pictures, que fez US$ 7,8 milhões em 3.424 salas.
A adaptação da obra de Colleen Hoover registrou uma queda de 41% em relação à estreia e soma US$ 27,5 milhões na América do Norte e US$ 50 milhões no total mundial, contra um orçamento de US$ 30 milhões.
Mesmo ter ficado em segundo lugar, o longa recebeu mais salas, reforçando o fenômeno literário de Colleen Hoover, autora de “É Assim que Acaba” (It Ends With Us) — e que já tem outros dois livros, “Verity” e “Uma Segunda Chance” (Reminders of Him), em desenvolvimento para o cinema em 2026.
Enquanto isso, “O Telefone Preto 2” ultrapassou US$ 61 milhões nos Estados Unidos e US$ 104 milhões globalmente, tornando-se o único título da Blumhouse neste ano a chegar perto dos US$ 100 milhões. Após uma onda de fracassos no ano de 2025, o estúdio espera repetir este mesmo sucesso com “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2”, previsto para dezembro.
Curiosamente, ambos os filmes contam com Mason Thames, jovem ator que vive um grande momento após também estrelar o remake de “Como Treinar o Seu Dragão”.
“Guerreiras do K-Pop” e “Chainsaw Man” empatam no Top 3
A disputa pelo terceiro lugar ficou entre o relançamento especial de “Guerreiras do K-Pop”, da Netflix, e o anime “Chainsaw Man – O Filme: O Arco de Reze”, da Sony/Crunchyroll, ambos com estimativas em torno de US$ 6 milhões.
A Netflix não divulga números oficiais, mas projeções de estúdios rivais indicam US$ 5,3 milhões no fim de semana, com US$ 600 mil na sexta-feira e US$ 2,74 milhões no sábado, elevando o total doméstico para US$ 24,3 milhões. Exibido em 2.890 salas, o musical animado foi relançado após se tornar o maior sucesso da plataforma em 2024, com US$ 18 milhões em sua primeira exibição nos cinemas.
Já “Chainsaw Man – O Filme: O Arco de Reze”, que havia liderado o ranking na semana passada, caiu 67% em sua segunda semana, mas ainda soma US$ 30,7 milhões na América do Norte e US$ 139 milhões globalmente — com US$ 109 milhões vindos do mercado internacional.
“Bugonia” e relançamentos nostálgicos sustentam o Top 10
Em quinto lugar, “BUGONIA”, nova colaboração entre o diretor Yorgos Lanthimos e Emma Stone, arrecadou US$ 4,8 milhões em 2.043 salas. No filme, Stone interpreta uma poderosa CEO de tecnologia sequestrada por dois teóricos da conspiração. A produção recebeu nota “B” no CinemaScore e atraiu um público majoritariamente masculino (61%), com 39% entre 24 e 34 anos — um bom desempenho para um filme de arte em expansão nacional.
Logo abaixo, o clássico “De Volta para o Futuro”, relançado em IMAX para celebrar seus 40 anos, arrecadou US$ 4,7 milhões em 2.105 salas, elevando seu total histórico para US$ 221 milhões (ou mais de US$ 600 milhões, ajustado pela inflação).
“A Saga Crepúsculo” também retornou aos cinemas para comemorar o 20º aniversário da publicação do primeiro livro de Stephenie Meyer. Com uma exibição especial de um título diferente por noite, entre 29 de outubro e 2 de novembro, a franquia arrecadou cerca de US$ 3 milhões em 1.500 salas.
Outros destaques
O épico indiano “Baahubali (Var)”, novo filme de S.S. Rajamouli (RRR), estreou em 448 salas com US$ 837 mil. O relançamento — uma versão remasterizada e reeditada dos dois filmes originais, totalizando quatro horas — teve sessões esgotadas em locais como AMC Lincoln Square (NYC) e exibições fortes em Los Angeles, Dallas, Seattle e Chicago.
Já “Springsteen: Salve-Me do Desconhecido”, da Searchlight, despencou 57%, somando US$ 3,8 milhões no segundo fim de semana e pouco mais de US$ 16 milhões no total. Enquanto isso, “Tron: Ares”, da Disney, segue em trajetória preocupante, com apenas US$ 2,8 milhões no fim de semana e US$ 67 milhões acumulados — um prejuízo quase certo para uma produção de US$ 200 milhões.
Outros títulos em cartaz incluem “Stitch Head”, animação independente que abriu com US$ 2,1 milhões, e “Quando o Céu Se Engana (Good Fortune)”, com Keanu Reeves e Seth Rogen, que encerrou sua exibição com modestos US$ 14,6 milhões. Já a dramédia “Uma Batalha Após a Outra”, de Paul Thomas Anderson, arrecadou US$ 1,15 milhão, totalizando US$ 67,7 milhões em sua passagem final pelos cinemas de arte.
Um outubro sombrio — e um apelo para os grandes lançamentos
Segundo analistas, o fraco desempenho de outubro não deve ser visto como um presságio, mas como reflexo da ausência de eventos cinematográficos imperdíveis. “O público ainda responde a filmes que geram conversa”, disse uma fonte de distribuição à Deadline.
Com “Predador: Terras Selvagens”, da Disney/20th Century Studios, chegando no próximo fim de semana, os estúdios esperam que a temporada volte a ganhar fôlego. Até lá, o Halloween de 2025 será lembrado não por sustos na tela — mas pelos números assustadores nas bilheterias.
