Accessible Places In #Toronto’s Great Outdoors
by Tatiana Furtado, June 2, 2021
"Summer days are here and so are the endless possibilities of outdoor activities! Planning a fun day outdoors is exciting and it’s important that everyone is included. From the city’s hidden gems, to the mainstream parks and paths, we’ve listed accessible places in Toronto for you to explore!
#HumberRiver Recreation Trail
The Humber River trail is a break from the hectic city noise. The surrounding greenery makes it soothing, quiet and enjoyable! The trail follows alongside the Humber River and is 8.2 KM in distance. Its paved concrete surface makes it 100% accessible for people using #wheelchair / #MobilityEquipment or #strollers! There’s a designated walking path for pedestrians so bikers can enjoy their time too. The most #accessible part of the trail is the first kilometre and there are plenty of benches along the trail for anyone in need. This trail is pet friendly too, so bring your dog along with you next time!
Note: Also check out West Humber River Recreation Trail for a longer trail of 19 km!
At 750 Bloor Street West, Christie Pits Parks is a beautiful place for all outdoor activities. The park has baseball fields, basketball and volleyball courts, a playground and a beautiful community garden! There are benches located at the centre of the garden that allow you to take in all the beautiful flowers!
Sidewalks, concrete pavement and well-kept grass makes this space accessible to anyone in the community. This is a great place to plan yourself a picnic, while enjoying the summer sun! You can even catch people walking the tight rope!
Street parking is available around the outskirts of the park.
#TrinityBellwoods Park
You can never get tired of Trinity Bellwoods because its such a great place to be when the weather is nice! Trinity Bellwoods park is such a welcoming environment and accessible to anyone in the city! You can always find a bunch of people enjoying their time and letting loose here. It’s also close to so many delicious food spots! The paved trails make it a safe, accessible environment and public washroom are also available. There’s endless activities to do here, so get ready if you want to have some fun! Definitely one of the most accessible places in Toronto for a day outdoors.
If you find yourself here sometime soon, check out King Slice at 1130 Queen St W. This is possibility the best and biggest pizza in the city!
#NorthernRavines And Gardens Trail
The Northern Ravines and Gardens Trail runs 5.5 KM in distance. Its a walking and hiking only trail fully surrounded in nature! This is the perfect trail for people using wheelchair/mobility equipment since they don’t have to worry about getting in the way of any bikers. A good place to start the trail is at #LawrenceSubwayStation and it will lead you through #LawrencePark, #Chatsworth, #Blythwood and #SherwoodPark ravines! This is a beautiful place to spend a lovely Sunday afternoon!"

Happy #SquirrelAppreciationDay! Despite the opinion of some people in my home there’s a colony of white squirrels in Toronto’s Trinity-Bellwood Park! I know. I’ve seen them. This is a portrait of one of them, climbing head-down a maple tree, along with the words “Legendary White Squirrel of Trinity-Bellwoods”. It’s sort of become a running joke to question the reality of 🧵

Two photos today from the corner of Queen West and Manning 124 years ago today! Back in 1900 there was a bicycle shop and the Empire Laundry - the corner hasn't really changed all that much, but the cobblestones on Manning are long gone. wholemap.com/Sept19 #OTD #Toronto #TorontoPhoto #TrinityBellwoods #OnThisDay #BWPhotography #HistoricPhoto

While the bridge still exists today, it is now 100% underground - the valley was filled in with earth from the construction of the Bloor subway. There is talk of unearthing it, along with restoring some of the original Garrison Creek that ran under the bridge. #OTD #Toronto #TrinityBellwoods #TorontoPhoto #OnThisDay#HistoricPhoto https://wholemap.com/May27

Happy #SquirrelAppreciationDay! Despite the opinion of some people in my home there's a colony of white squirrels in Toronto's Trinity-Bellwood Park! I know. I've seen them. It's sort of become a running joke to question the reality of the white squirrels of Trinity-Bellwoods, but they are well documented. You can google it. They even have a street, White Squirrel Way, and a café named after them.

Still thinking of more examples, but here is the info on the white squirrel:

There is also a coffee shop named after it and the white squirrel shows up in Toronto posters and art all the time.

It’s good to know there are some things in this city that haven’t changed. #TrinityBellwoods #toronto #TOpoli

Why on earth was a #toronto police car driving thru #trinitybellwoods on a Monday, first on the grass & mud and then on paths?

They always do shit like this on Fridays.
The report was released a week ago¹ Friday, and discussion² of the report magically didn't take place until — *dun dun dun* — Friday.
This is certainly an improvement over Burnside's performance³, and yet she could have stepped up to the plate to voted DIFFERENTLY on a number of motions.
Here's hoping Alejandra Bravo puts her money where her mouth is as we head into this year's season of state violence against the unhoused.
