Have you ever wondered where John Wyndham got the idea for the eponymous human-munching abulatory plants in his classic 1950s sci-fi novel The Day of the Triffids? If so, this plaque in Glasgow's Botanic Gardens provides an answer. Admittedly, it's nowhere near the true one!

Dear Tree Friends and friends of #trees,

As some may know, people talk to #bees (#traditional), hug trees and climb #bee hives. Well if a wer-bee they do, otherwise they have to make do with tree #climbing.😆

Talking of #bamboo, which I was not. I have some toilet #paper made from bamboo to #commerate Thomas Crapper. The #inventor of the sit down #Victorian privy. And awarded a Royal Warrant.

Anyway back to the trees (bamboo is a grass). Do you think they will be able to grow trees on the #moon (#rewilding) or #terraforming? It would be a huge #task. Maybe we could start with Australia, which is getting drier than Delhi. Sheep are dropping, like flyers in an election.

Other useless #questions I have been #considering:
- Should trees be allowed to walk, after being genetically modified into Oil producing #Triffids?
- Can weather #forecasting now be considered science fiction?
- If soil is alive, what happens when it #mutates, rather than becomes #extinct?

Anyway enough gibbering from me. I have a call to make.

It's funny that so many folks thought of "The Day of the #Triffids" with the appearance of the #auroras. Maybe it was a kind of harbinger, though, since #H5N1 #Avian_Influenza really can make you go blind.

Double-checked online, and for the specific variety of chilli plants (Hot Lemon), I have found lots of places saying 18 to 24 inches, with some saying up to 36.
So why are some of mine now passing six feet tall?

#TIL #cenobite is not a word that Clive Barker made up 😅 Not being especially steeped in the monastic life, I suppose I can be forgiven for not running into it until listening to the audiobook of The Day of the #Triffids. It nearly caused me to do a spit-take! Anyhow if you don't know, a cenobite would be a person involved in community-oriented monastic life, as opposed to the hermit life. Fun with #vocabulary!
