But it is—and always has been—UPSIDE DOWN!
It's the same as the #water cycle: millions of tiny streams (workers, small businesses) feed the crops, the economy, populations & environment, before ending in a tiny number (the 0.001%) of LARGE (wealthy) oceans... that don't "trickle down" anywhere or do any of the work of the millions of tiny streams.

It's always "more complicated than that." Nevertheless this thread (unrolled so you don't have to go there) brings together some interesting graphs.
