10,000 households in New York City went on rent strike, demanding a reduction in prices of around 20%. Rents in the area, the then-working class Lower East Side, had increased in cost by a third over the previous two years.

The Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire is remembered world wide as a catalyst for improved worker health and safety. The scumbag owners locked the exits so women couldn’t escape the fire. I should be shocked that USians are unaware of this event but imagine it was erased from the curriculum because of lobbying by the capitalist class. #sigh
