Watching a documentary about ww1 trenches AND it got me thinking.
How long was it until the trenches were buried?
Obviously there was miles and miles of German and allies trenches and today they are just fields etc.
Ww2 was 21 years after ww1... were any trenches used in ww1 ALSO used in ww2?
I know trenches are still used today, look at Ukraine etc. But not quite in the same way as in ww1.

Does anyone know if there is any framework or model that describes when stalemate will occur in war? It seems like there could be a physics kind of model. Maybe you could have an effective surface tension that stabilizes the battle line against efforts to make a breakthrough. The surface tension could depend on either side's weapon range, firepower, armor or entrenchment.

Trench #warfare is a type of land warfare in which opposing armed forces #attack counterattack, and defend from relatively permanent systems of trenches dug into the ground. It became prevalent during World War I when the superior firepower of the defense compelled the opposing forces to "dig in" extensively to gain protection. Trench warfare is characterized by a harsh, stagnant, and extremely dangerous living environment for soldiers.
