I’m always interested in how bike companies are adding financing as an option for their customers. I saw a Citizens Pay ad (which I had never heard of) for Trek’s online store with “0% financing”. So I clicked through and found this buried really deep in the fine print… 29.99% APR on purchases “after the promotional period”. New bike tool day. This time it’s for facing disc brake mounts.
The Park Tool DT-5.2 is a lovely piece of equipment. But, it simply shouldn’t be needed. Frame manufacturers ought to be ashamed of not finishing their products properly. Yes, I’m looking at you this time #Trek, but you’re far from alone.

Ok #biketooter o gracious cyclists of the #cycling community I have a tech question. Are #bontrager Connection wheels #tubless compatible? Tubes are fine but you know how it is, always need a new project. #trekbikes

My friend was complaining that his 6 month old #Trek Bike was making crunchy sounds when riding. So I pulled it apart to see what was wrong. Turns out the rear wheel bearing cone on the chain side of his #Bontrager wheel was completely stuffed. It was making the crunchy noises from the day he bought it. The same wheel has also had 5 spokes snap in ordinary city riding. (The guy that owns this bike does not treat it badly, he uses it as his primary in-city transport.)
I put new cones, bearings and spokes in it, and it's fixed.I believe the cone was faulty from the factory, as only one cone on side of the hub was damaged.
He didn't take it back under warranty because High Street Cycles in Shepparton closed down the day after he purchased it. And the nearest Trek warranty repairer is over 150KM away in Albury.
the rest of the Trek bike has been perfectly good, the disc brakes are a little loud, but other than that good. the only issues he's had with it have all been issues with the Bontrager wheels.
I wouldn't recommend Bontrager wheels after this.
