Basel was the first city of Switzerland to have a train station: in 1844. The two clocks used to show the time of the different time zones the trains would go from here. And with this picture I finish my trööting about my little city trip.

How do you do level boarding when there's not enough room for boarding islands? Just drop the middle of the road and use the travel lanes as boarding. They use this in a few space-constrained locations. (Engineers in the US would *hate* this) #travelthread

Train to Bern was full. Train to Basel, with 24 cars, was empty. Meaning we shared the children’s coach with one other family. No one minded screaming there! (There’s a slide for the kids in the train, I should have taking a photo.) #travelthread

#travelthread trams in Zurich are great. Frequent, reliable, smooth, quiet, comfortable. Live transfer info, dedicated lanes where needed and good TSP keeps them on schedule. Of “surface” modes, they carry 2/3 of pax in ZVV (of the rest, trolleybuses carry more than buses).
