Early on Don Det. Hours before the ferry to Cambodia.
So I walk.

Mekong River. Lao kids running past. Cows in the road. Motorbikes whizzing by. Bronski Beat in my headphones.

A small girl mirrors my fast walk beside me — and I realise: that’s how I look.

A simple walk with music in a new country is anything but simple.

Just landed in Don Det, Laos — and realized I’m in the 1% of travellers: slow, observant, building stories, not following the backpacker crowd. Writing flows, crypto watches, coffees by the river — I don’t need to fit in. I’m building something that lasts.

I’m going to be honest: when you spend a long time in any country, the frustrations can build up, and you can find yourself hating everyone. That isn’t racism — it’s the same as when a local has a bad few days and ends up hating people in general.

It’s just a cloud, and it does pass. I never actually hated the people; I was sick, exhausted, and having a bad time.
