The physical destruction of September 11 was visible to the world. The psychological injuries carried by survivors were often hidden.

Twenty-five years later, John Crittenden shares what happened after he came home.

  2. 25 years on...

Thinking of the victims & also witnesses of #Sept11 - children & teens. I worked with them & cannot/ will not forget.

There was no Facebook/twitter yet, but I had a #psychology site with resources for educators & #mentalhealth professionals. On Sept 11, I saw this and re-shared it on my site (with permission!)

It struck me as profound #truth then, in the midst of so much grief and #trauma.

Now there is a generation of 30-somethings, with the memory.

  3. Good things about being plural and having an "inside world" service dog.

    *No vet bills
    *No fur everywhere
*My service dog can literally go anywhere with me to help
*No pet bond or pet fees to pay anywhere, ever.

....and no poop clean up. Win win😂

  4. How a NYC school helped children process 9/11 attacks

As NYC marks 25 years since the September 11 attacks, Dan Feigelson, former principal of P.S. 6 Lillie D. Blake School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, reflected on how the school's educators helped kids, including a student who lost a parent, cope in the days and years that followed. #News #Reuters #Newsfeed #nyc #manhattan #9/11 #school #attack #traumahealing #trauma #mentalhealth

If anyone is not bothered by me trying to open up to the world after six years, about my past sexual trauma and coercion in being intimate, in a long-distance relationship (LDR), here is the article.

  6. Today's #grandma recording: "You don't really like to speak about your wedding, right"? - What? - "You don't really like to speak about your wedding, right?." - What? - "You don't really like to speak about your wedding, right?." - "Was not that nice. Was not that nice."

Then she told me, that when they were in the church (she wasn't even sure anymore, which church it was), she saw the Kohleklau character de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kohlenkl and that she was so scared.

  7. Most of us surf on the wave of an emotion—we scream, we cry, we regulate, we cope. But the wave doesn't go anywhere; the next one is already coming. 🌊
The shift happens when we stop surfing and dive: beneath the reaction and the behavior lie the physical sensations—the currents below. What we call emotion is often just an interoceptive prediction, generated from past experience.

  8. It is important to remember that trauma is complicated, and there are different responses to it. I have seen people get attacked for not reacting "enough" to something going bad. You can't tell what someone is feeling just by looking at them

  10. This is a good time to remind everyone about content warnings on the Fediverse. We've all seen the images and videos of what happened 25 years ago this week in NYC, PA, and Washington DC.

Before reposting any of that media, please consider using a content warning. For many of us, those images already have a permanent place in our memories.

    Thanks.

  11. One quarter of Australian kids are ‘developmentally vulnerable’ when they start school. Quality childcare can catch them up

"We know the first five years are a crucial time in a child’s life. Early experiences, such as family relationships or exposure to trauma, shape brain architecture, which lays the foundation for children’s learning, behaviour and health."

"Worryingly, a significant proportion of young Australians are not getting the positive early experiences they need. As of 2024, almost 25% of Australian children were identified as “developmentally vulnerable” by the time they start school. This means many children lack the self-regulation, thinking, language, resilience, and social skills needed for learning and getting along with their peers."

"Our research provides evidence that intervening early – well before children start school – has the potential to make a significant difference to children’s life trajectories." >

  12. The Looking Glass

Alice peers through a looking glass and discovers another version of herself—one untouched by pain, grief, fear, and survival. What follows is a quiet reckoning with freedom, resilience, imagination, and the strange ways we learn to recognize ourselves.

  13. Rural road deaths increasing

"A new report has identified an increasing number of fatal crashes on rural and regional roads".

"An analysis by the Australian Road Safety Foundation (ARSF) found 906 people died on roads outside the capital cities in 2025, a 10.5 per cent increase on 2024. The ARSF understands this to be the highest number of regional fatalities since 2020."

"Deaths on rural, regional and remote roads made up nearly 70 per cent of the national road toll in 2025, despite only about 25 per cent of the population living in those locations." >>

  16. Oren Jay Sofer has updated his recommended reading lists!

    #Meditation #Mindfulness #Buddhism #NVC : orenjaysofer.com/reading-list

    #Qigong #Movement #Trauma : orenjaysofer.com/qigong

Notably, a few excellent recommendations are missing from the current list, namely:

    - Hardwiring Happiness by Rick Hanson
    - Spinning Threads of Radical Aliveness (thefearlessheart.org/store/spi) by Miki Kashtan
    - Reweaving Our Human Fabric (thefearlessheart.org/store/rew) by Miki Kashtan

Also notably, the default links are mostly to #Amazon, so for anyone who plans on buying anything from the list, you may want to search for the #book or #books from an #ethical #bookseller yourself.
