#GeneticallyModified #pig #kidney keeps man alive for record nine months
Organ kept Tim Andrews off #dialysis and acted as a ‘bridge’ while he waited for a human #transplant
He had end-stage kidney disease caused by type 2 #diabetes and had only a 9% chance of receiving a human kidney within 5yr, and more than 40% risk of dying or being removed from waiting list. Kidney transplantation provides best survival and quality of life but demand for organs far exceeds supply.

I miss the monthly First Fridays in Santa Cruz. Speaking of art shows #petaluma #sonomaCounty #newcomer #transplant

And it works! This past Thursday I went to an opening I wasn't really THAT interested in but ended up having a delightful conversation with a local artist (completely separate from the exhibit actually - she just happened to be at Aqus and didn't even know there was an opening happening) #petaluma #sonomaCounty #newcomer #transplant

Very tired but going to try and summon the energy to at least stop in for a bit at some art show openings in town. Part of my efforts to get more grounded in my new home. Something I've been neglecting to do.

Hmm, conundrum... I am signed up for the monthly volunteer training at the local humane society, so that I can start volunteering and get some canine time, but I also found out about a recital at the same time that sounds interesting and also might be a way to get to know better more people in town who have similar vocal/singing interests to me...
My gut is I should reschedule the volunteer training (by 5 weeks): that happens monthly but this recital is a much rarer event, so I should prioritize that.
