  1. "Over nearly two decades as a psychologist and psychoanalyst, I’ve learned that conflict, by itself, rarely destroys relationships. Marriages, families, and friendships can withstand remarkable amounts of it. What people struggle to survive is the sudden realization that love, acceptance, or belonging was more conditional than they believed.

Watching #Senator #Wiener leave the #TransMarch, I realized I had been watching versions of this same story unfold for nearly three years. In my office, among friends and colleagues, and throughout the #queer #Jewish community, I had watched people drift away from spaces they once considered home, not because they had stopped being #gay or because they had stopped being Jewish, but because they no longer knew whether they were allowed to be both."

  3. This is the big #Pride weekend in #SanFrancisco, but I'm not attending any events. I used to look forward to photographing the #TransMarch, but I stopped going a few years ago. Among other reasons, I didn't think anyone would notice or care about my absence, and it seems I was right. If even one friend had personally invited me to come I probably would have, despite my growing discomfort from noise, crowds, and police, who were involved this year:

    It was a nice surprise!

  7. crushing failure, I immediately got separated from everyone and also petted a record low number of dogs. Will have to try extra hard the rest of this weekend. However it was lovely meeting people (both again and for the first time)!

  10. Local politics angle: former councillor, now MPP Kristyn Wong-Tam and my former MPP Cheri DiNovo have made appearances. Mayor Chow is apparently here too; perhaps there's a #TOcouncil contingent.

  11. settled on trans wrath for sign

  12. still haven't decided what to put on my sign for the #TransMarch. as ever I am tempted to create an all-purpose one like "QUEER TRANS JEWS FOR A FREE PALESTINE AND ALSO BIKE LANES"

  13. OKAY FEDI LET'S DO THIS

Who wants to meet up at the Toronto Trans March? Rally starts at 7 p.m, march at 8 p.m, Church & Hayden.

Last time, while trying to meet up with someone, I ran into several other people from fedi entirely by accident!

  14. Successfully spent the entire weekend at #Pride (including walking in all 3 of the #transmarch #dykemarch and the official parade, as well as some park time at the abolitionist-pride event hosted by #NoPrideInPolicing and two patio-hangs with friends), and did NOT get sunburned. A minor miracle?

  16. For context, here's my write-up of the 2016 #SanFrancisco #TransMarch that explains what happened when mayor Ed Lee and supervisor Scott Wiener tried to take the stage.

  18. I'm no fan of #SanFrancisco mayor Daniel Lurie, but not sure how I feel about him being booed just for attending the #TransMarch. I was at the 2016 event when pols were booed off the stage but that was different; Lurie wasn't officially speaking AFAIK.

  20. I went to the Trans March today in Toronto. I don't normally do parades, as I don't care for the crowds, but trans folk have been putting up with a lot recently and I thought I should show my support.

I was really glad I did; I've been complaining for years that the big Toronto Pride Parade has been getting too crowded, dull, and corporate, and lacking the fabulousness it used to have. But this event was great -- it was full of the kind of energy, resistance and joy I remember from Pride in the 80s and 90s. And that makes sense, because the current stakes for trans folk are high, as they were for cis gays and lesbians back then.

I saw lots of friends in the parade, who'd all run up and hug me and my husband as they passed by. We'd cheer them on their way.

And the march was huge! It was great to see all the support. I'll include a few pictures below.

  25. Today is the Trans March in Toronto. This cis guy is going to head downtown later to stand on the sidelines and cheer on my trans friends and relatives.

But first I need to do my gender-affirming body modifications, such as trimming my beard to make it look more full, doing resistance training to try to get more muscular, and cutting my nails short.

Edit: the march is *tomorrow*, not today. A side effect of retirement is not knowing what day it is.

  27. It’s finally the week of SF trans march and I cannot wait until Friday. Nothing in my life has been as healing as being around thousands of us in one place and this year of all years I really, really need it. Let me know if you’re going! 🏳️‍⚧️ #TransMarch #TransMarchSF transmarch.org/

  35. 2023 San Francisco #TransMarch! Felt like largest one yet, the march stretched several blocks and both sides of Market Street. Great to see our community and friends out in numbers today, and know that the thousands out there today are just a small part of the Bay Area's trans people, most I know were elsewhere.

Been going since the late 2000s and the community and city have changed over the years... Some have found success, especially in tech, while others have struggled with California's housing shortage and high cost of living.

This year in addition to rallying against anti-trans legislation in other states, there were also calls for justice for Banko Brown, a young man who was shot and killed by a security guard earlier this year.

In California, our trans-friendly legislation has made lots of progress, the next stage towards liberation will need a bigger economic effort as well - helping people afford housing and healthcare, both of which need to be guaranteed rights.

  41. Devastating and amazing street theater protesting ICE treatment of trans people. They would set off a siren then a fake gun with confetti then lie down and die and run around with flags of various central and south American countries. Complete with coffin #TransMarch
