This just proves that _nothing_ in computing is intuitive, its all based on learning.

When confronted with something that works differently from what you have already learnt it means you have to learn anew.

Some people like that challenge, others don't.

Menu's with key-strokes listed and for Emacs `which-key` and `transient` buffers help massively

    #emacs #whichkey #transient

  2. look at the vagabond

    look at the vagabond
see that his ears are cropped

ask was it yesterday his feet
    were locked in the stocks

ask was it last week he couldn’t
pull his head nor his hands from the pillory

    say tell me stranger
was it a month ago the good people
of wittenburg threw offal at you

    smell that he’s putrid

ask if under the wool of his doublet
the once white linen of his smock is slashed
with dried blood ask if he was whipped

ask if for the hours of the night
or if for years of a long dark he was
fettered in the dungeon under job’s castle1

look that his eyes blink against daylight
or that it’s his terrors that blink his eyes say

to the man who walks the world alone
return with me to the town
i’ll give you a company to walk with
and a regiment to walk with the company

  3. @alcarney Not an `eshell` solution but if you are looking to use `jj`from Emacs you might be interested in Majutsu, particularly if you used and liked Magit as it claims to be "Magit for Jujutsu"

  4. RE: fosstodon.org/@tarsius/1163800

    Do you use #emacs and #magit or #transient ?

Help one of the stand out #emacs package maintainers and developers by making a donation, no matter how small (ideally recurring).

  5. An optical transient candidate of ≲ 2-second duration captured by wide-field video observations: arxiv.org/abs/2602.11600 -> "we report the discovery of an optical #transient candidate (TMG20200322) with a duration of ≲ 2 s by wide-field video observations in the direction of the Earth's shadow. TMG20200322 was detected in just two consecutive images of 1-second exposure time, with its shape becoming elongated in the second frame.

  6. I've been experimenting with #eca on #emacs and managed to make a start on one of my TODO's which was make a useful #gnus #transient interface for me. It did have some trouble as I had to keep reporting runtime failures for fixing. But you can help by exposing tools to the LLM and giving more context: github.com/stsquad/my-emacs-st

Anyway the result is serviceable although I do need to give it a human pass: github.com/stsquad/my-emacs-st

  7. I did a bunch of tidy-up to #hubi and tagged a initial release: github.com/stsquad/hubi/releas

Hubi is a #transient builder interface that allows you to kick off make, meson or ninja builds of your projects. It's based on a similar thing I wrote for counsel and is now the main way I kick off builds in #emacs

I'm thinking about how I could extend hubi with configuration support but feedback on the transient interface would be useful as it's very much a "works for me" project at the moment.

  8. I did a bit of recreational #elisp today and added #cargo support to #hubi, my #transient build interface. I think the extensible approach works pretty nicely even if I'm sure there are some edge cases to work out on other cargo projects: github.com/stsquad/hubi/commit

  9. The Most Luminous Known Fast Blue Optical #Transient AT 2024wpp - Unprecedented Evolution and Properties in the X-rays and Radio: arxiv.org/abs/2509.00952 -> thread bsky.app/profile/starlights.bs

  10. Trying to think of a project name for my #transient #emacs build tool interface. I've been playing around with an anglicisation of the #welsh phrase "iechyd da" which is often used as a drinking toast meaning "good health". One potential English spelling "Yachi" would lend itself to the acronym "Yet Another Compiler Heuristic Invoker" but it seems a bit contrived and also technically wrong on the pronunciation.

    I'm open to suggestions.

  11. Strongly polarised radio pulses from a new white-dwarf-hosting long-period transient / CHIME/Fast Radio Burst Discovery of an Unusual Circularly Polarized Long-period Radio #Transient with an Accelerating Spin Period: aanda.org/articles/aa/full_htm / iopscience.iop.org/article/10. -> Astronomers uncover white dwarf system emitting bright radio pulses with strange rhythm: astron.nl/astronomers-uncover-

  12. Its too hot outside so I've been doing some #emacs hacking porting #counsel-compile to a #casual #transient interface: github.com/stsquad/casual/comm

It's been a bit of a learning curve as I'm not familiar with the philosophy of the transient #API and #vibe coding with an #llm fails hilariously because this is a super niche of a niche. Any tips on how to save a set of arguments on a per-project basis would be appreciated. #hothacking

  13. Spent some time today replacing some keymaps in #Emacs with a #Transient menu. I thought years ago that Transient is the future of an Emacs AI and I still do

  14. @mih @dkz2r @adswa @doktorpanik @WiNoDa @nfdi4objects @abcdj

Since there is so much potential - who has started working on the integration of #DataLad into #Emacs ? A nice addition could be something the #casual suite / #transient menu.

  15. New paper, just out.

Often, in real-world situations, one does not know the full structure of a network. However, at the same time, one can often observe some interactions that take place on it, and may be interested in knowing its full structure. For example, one may be detecting some partial criminal activity and may want to determine the whole organization. We consider higher-order networks, which are structures with many-body interactions, and specifically simplicial complexes, and show that one can reconstruct a whole network almost perfectly simply by observing the transient of the dynamics that takes place on it. In fact, we give 3 different algorithms to do it, with different complexities and accuracies, so you can choose which one suits you best.
