From the article: “The cruel irony is that thousands of transgender servicemembers have sacrificed—some risking their lives—to ensure for others the very equal protection rights the Military Ban seeks to deny them.”

From the article: “The company you keep says a lot about you.
"New York Governor Andrew Cuomo stepped down from office in October 2021 amidst rampant allegations of sexual misconduct and the apparent mishandling of nursing home deaths during the COVID shutdowns. Now, he’s making a comeback — with a senior campaign official who worked for a prolific anti-trans, anti-abortion organization, the founder of which brags about purportedly detransitioning his child."

From the article: "On January 27, 2025, with the stroke of a pen, thousands of military careers were slated for termination. That was the day President Donald Trump signed an executive order banning transgender individuals from serving in the military. This order was not only severe in its scope but alarmingly rushed in its execution and callous in its treatment of service members who have devoted their lives to protecting our nation.
"Despite rhetoric suggesting this policy allows for nuance, the reality is absolute. The Department of Defense has abandoned any pretense of "grandfathering" transgender service members, many of whom have been serving honorably since first permitted to openly serve in 2017. These individuals—who meet all military requirements, are deployed worldwide, and serve with distinction—are now labeled unfit based on a characteristic that has nothing to do with their abilities or performance.
"This abrupt reversal represents an extraordinary betrayal of trust. Service members who came forward, often at great personal risk, under previous assurances from military leadership that they could serve as transgender troops, now face involuntary separation. As the United States Secretary of the Navy, and during my own military service, I committed to an institution that prided itself on never leaving anyone behind. Yet thousands of transgender service members are now being abandoned without regard for their years of effective and dedicated service."

From the article: "On March 4, Arkansas lawmakers introduced HB1668, the Vulnerable Youth Protection Act, a sweeping bill that would criminalize support for the social transition of transgender youth. The bill allows parents to sue anyone who affirms a child’s gender identity, defining social transition broadly as “any act by which a minor adopts or espouses a gender identity that differs from the minor’s biological sex… including without limitation changes in clothing, pronouns, hairstyle, and name.” It also serves as a total ban on youth gender-affirming care, prohibiting both surgeries and hormone therapy for transgender minors. But the bill goes even further: it asserts extraterritorial jurisdiction, meaning lawsuits could be brought against people outside of Arkansas if they are deemed to have helped a transgender child transition. The penalties are staggering—minimum damages of $10,000 per defendant, with punitive damages reaching up to $10 million for those involved in medical care."

From the article: "Transgender people who have served the United States in uniform in the military will no longer be treated with dignity at Veterans Affairs facilities. The Department of Veterans Affairs on Friday afternoon rescinded Directive 1341, a policy that for years ensured transgender, nonbinary, and intersex veterans received respectful, clinically appropriate health care, The Advocate has learned."
"The directive provided clear protections for these veterans against discrimination within the VA system and established standards for their care, including access to hormone therapy, mental health support, and the ability to use VA facilities in accordance with their gender identity.
"Directive 1341, officially titled Providing Health Care for Transgender and Intersex Veterans, was first issued in 2018 to affirm the VA's commitment to equitable health care for transgender and intersex veterans. It specified that transgender veterans be housed according to their gender identity in VA residential treatment programs and allowed them to use bathrooms and other facilities that align with their gender identity. The directive has undergone multiple updates, with amendments in 2020, 2023, and 2024 to strengthen LGBTQ+ health care protections further."

Headline: ACLU of Michigan aims to intervene after Trump admin drops transgender discrimination case
Source: @michiganadvance
From the article: "The ACLU of Michigan announced it is seeking to intervene in a federal transgender rights lawsuit after the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission told the court it would drop the case due to President Donald Trump’s executive order directing federal agencies not to promote “gender ideology.”
"The Commission’s investigation into the case found that Asher Lucas, a transgender man, and his coworkers Regina Zaviski and Savannah Nurme-Robinson, each lost their job at a Culver’s restaurant in Clarkston after going to supervisors with concerns that Lucas was being mistreated by a fellow coworker because he is transgender.
"Following an investigation the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission sued Culver’s and its associated business entities on Oct. 25, 2024, seeking relief for Lucas as well as Zaviski and Nurme-Robinson. However, under the Trump administration, the commission has moved to dismiss its claims in this case, as well as other workplace discrimination cases filed on behalf of transgender employees across the nation, though the ACLU notes the Supreme Court has deemed employment discrimination against transgender people a violation of federal law."

Headline: The Trump Administration Has Made 150 Million American Workers Newly Vulnerable to Workplace Discrimination
Source: Center for American Progress
From the article: "Essentially, all employees and job seekers, a total of approximately 153 million Americans, benefit from the protections the EEOC provides. The Equal Pay Act—a law requiring equal pay for equal work that the EEOC enforces—covers virtually all employers, while other laws enforced by the EEOC apply to all but the smallest employers. Whether they work in the private sector or for the government, practically all employees and those applying for jobs are protected by the EEOC against illegal employer actions" (Annotations removed for clarity)

Headline: The Costly Business of Discrimination
While this article is over a decade old, the effects and costs of discrimination of LGBTQ people, especially Transgender people, have surely increased.
Source: Center for American Progress - Mar 22, 2012
From the article: "There’s a price to be paid for workplace discrimination—$64 billion. That amount represents the annual estimated cost of losing and replacing more than 2 million American workers who leave their jobs each year due to unfairness and discrimination.
"A significant number of those workers are gay and transgender individuals who have been treated unfairly simply because of their sexual orientation and gender identity. According to a recent survey, fully 42 percent of gay individuals say they have experienced some form of employment discrimination at some point in their lives. Transgender workers face even higher rates of workplace discrimination and harassment. An astonishing 90 percent of transgender individuals report experiencing some form of harassment, mistreatment, or discrimination on the job, or taking actions such as hiding who they are to avoid it. This includes 47 percent who said they had experienced an adverse job outcome such as being fired, denied employment, or not receiving a deserved promotion because of their gender identity."
