wallowing in the doldrums of pms but still doing your workout is this absurd little storm of spite and nihilism. "im running nowhere to rebuild physical conditioning that i dont use for sports or labor or anything beyond my own vanity and nobody cares but fuck it lets go."
-
also my lower back hurts because in yesterday's strength training i discovered all my large muscle groups are pretty much fine and eager to get back into exercising, but all the small muscle groups doing balance and stabilization have gone to utter shit and will need to be built back up again. which means it's super fucking easy to fuck everything up, hooray!
-
monday 5k after leisurely sunday 5k also burns so good just not quite as pleasantly
-
lazy sunday 5k, burns so good
-
lower body strength burn feels so goooood.
also deadlifts feel surprisingly different now. my hips just slide right into position, its heavenly.
also: i got a splat point in a strength workout?! jeez. that hasnt happened in forever.

i took TWO consecutive rest days over the weekend and im still salty about how necessary that was.
but i was back on the goddamn horse today.
i worked my base up to 5mph (started at 4.8) and did "all outs" of 6.6mph. these are, for reference, "otf newbie" numbers and im salty about that, too.
but i did the thing. ill be back to do the next thing. all it takes is time.
-
so i fucking hated that
i miss how i used to just tell my body to do stuff and it just did it.
and the only way back to that is to push through workouts that suck
guh. onward.
-
jfc is my conditioning shot to hell.
hitting red zone running at 5mph.
itll just burn calories faster i guess

first day back at gymmie was… humbling.
started in on a 50 minute treadmill workout and realized ten minutes in that, with the padding that two months of lying around have put on my inner thighs and wearing the shorts i had on, i was going to give myself friction burns. so i had to switch over to a bike for the rest of the workout.
looking at myself in the mirror was hard.
silver linings, tho: that was the most comfortable ive ever been sitting on a bike seat!
-
them: "you need T to build muscles"
me: "you need your head not full of gender dysphoria to build muscles"
-
it is 5:15 in the morning and i am sitting at gymmie waiting to sweat, what even is my life any more?!
#otf #TransFitness -
on wednesdays we wear pink and stand in terrible lighting at gymmie
-
i am so full-body sore after yesterday's workout i feel like i got dragged into an alleyway and beaten
-
ive been trying to get into a tread class for what feels like three weeks and finally got in by signing up for a strength class that didnt have a concurrent tread class and then just running instead of lifting
(i should have just shown up instead of registering for a slot in the strength class and next time thats what ill do)
anyway, holy fucken cheeseballs was that exactly what i needed. absolutely glorious workout that felt like flying. deliciously worn out after.
-
me, catching my reflection in the mirror at an early morning indoor triathalon im doing basically for shits and giggles: what the fuck, i look like an action figure, how did that happen?!
me, remembering that im at an early morning indoor triathalon im doing basically for shits and giggles, and that this has been going on for a year, now: oh. right.

It's my one-year anniversary at OrangeTheory Fitness!
Over the past year, I've done 206 burns (workouts), have improved my speed and endurance on runs and rowing, vastly improved my strength, and have carved out a waist and built some hips.
I feel amazing.
-
jfc i am so fucking sore all over today #TransFitness #otf
-
my 200th burn coincided with PSL Day!
so today's workout was all Presses, Squats, and Lunges
…and then celebratory pumpkin spice lattes.
-
i kicked off "Marathon Month" at gymmie by running a 5k because i didnt actually know what my 5k time was anymore. i finished in 30:45, which RunKeeper said was my second-best time ever*.
today at the end of Marathon Month, i ran another 5k to see if all those tread classes paid off. i hoped to beat thirty minutes.
i finished in 28:57. didnt just crack thirty, but beat it by more than a full minute!
-
Big workout today.
One-mile benchmark and shaved twenty seconds off my time.
And this workout's mileage rolled me over my Marathon Month goal of 50km ultramarathon! :D
-
the air conditioning at gymmie was struggling so i took off my shirt and just worked out in my sports bra. two things:
a) i can just do that now, which is wild. sports bras are terrible but also kind of wonderful.
b) there are mirrors everywhere at gymmie and apparently while working out i now have visible abs which is… i honestly dont even have words. this was never in a million years on my transition bingo card.
-
shaved five seconds off my personal record for 2000m row!
i'm still new enough (9mo) that every benchmark day is a new PR, but the margins by which i make those PRs are getting closer and closer to zero. the day where i dont grab a PR is coming soon, and im trying to prepare myself so i dont feel like an abject failure when it happens.
-
shaved 22 seconds off my time for one mile run!
-
CW: fitness, weight loss, scientifically dubious measurement
im above average in all metrics! that's good, right?
more seriously, body fat down another 3% in the last three months.
i know the accuracy of inbody scans are suspect and the thresholds, as soft as they are pedalled, are arbitrary, but bodyfat getting labelled yellow instead of red is still gratifying.
-
shaved nine seconds off my 500m row time!
-
strength workouts are so important and produce the least impressive share graphics.
But I did three dozen bridges, explosively thrusting my hips up off the ground with a seventy pound barbell on top of them, just sayin.
-
the first time we did Catch Me If You Can, i walked out of that saying, "wow, i hated that workout."
this morning, the second time, i waked out of it saying, "wow, i FUCKING hated that workout."
it's the only otf workout that you fail (unless you can run 9.4 mph for twenty minutes).
anyway, personal record, fuck you, Catch Me If You Can, die in a fire.
-
completed orange theory's dry triathalon, aka DRI TRI.
2000m rowing
300 body weight reps
5km runit was my first time so my only goal was to finish, and i did at just under an hour. wheeee!!!

The trainers have been great on customizing the workouts for me to avoid bulking up shoulders—although thats recently just meant my glutes are getting a lot of attention and are constantly sore. 🤣
I can definitely see this becoming a cornerstone of our weekly routine and us settling in to the local microculture. Never thought transition would end up making me a gym bunny but really this is just surprising new life development #468.

Also got 23 splat points (23 minutes spent at >84% of my maximum heart rate), which is my best (and will get harder to match or beat as my max heart rate increases).
All of that was on the treadmill—I have yet to figure out how to get my heart rate up on the rowing machines without feeling like I'm going to vomit. I think it's a body-systems-mismatched thing (my arms are so sad compared to my legs) and I’ll get past it in time.

#OrangeTheory continues (and will continue through November cause its a 3 month starting commitment).
Am trying to internalize that when the trainer uses the words "last," "final," or "all-out," they are LYING. Its not the last push of the day's workout, its the last push of this block, and there are two more blocks. Don't actually go all-out because after that you're doing walking recovery and then two more rounds of "all-outs."
Watch the clock, Mimsy. It's an hour of sweating.
