Es ist Trans Day of Visibility und wie immer wünschte ich mir, ich müsste mich nicht darum kümmern, trans zu sein.

Du da, hypothetischer Cis-Leser, hast du es satt, in den Nachrichten ständig von Trans-Scheiße zu hören?

Ich auch, wir alle.

Es ist der Trans Day of Visibility, aber es ist auch der Trans Day of Have To Go To Work Anyway, oder der Trans Day of Who The Fuck is Hiring, oder der Trans Day of How Are We Going to Support All These Queers Who Are Internally Displaced Refugees Here in the States.

Früher trug ich einen selbstgemachten Anstecker, auf dem stand „Ich will wahrscheinlich nicht mit dir über Gender reden“, weil Gender auf meiner persönlichen Prioritätenliste ganz unten steht. Ich bezeichne mich selbst mit den Pronomen „ich/mich/mein“ und das einzige geschlechtsspezifische Wort, das mir persönlich wichtig ist, ist, dass ich Rintrahs Mama bin. Und ihm ist Gender egal, und er pinkelt mit allen vier Pfoten auf dem Boden.

Ich schreibe selten über Trans-Themen, und das liegt nicht daran, dass ich mich selbst hasse, sondern daran, dass mich Gender irgendwie langweilt. Der einzige Grund, warum es mich interessiert, ist, dass die Gesellschaft sich einfach so sehr dafür interessiert. Ich verspreche dir: Meine Gedanken zur Dekolonialisierung und zur Abschaffung von Staat und Kapitalismus stellen eine viel größere Herausforderung für den Status quo dar als die Tatsache, dass ich manchmal Kleider trage, obwohl ich nicht „passiere“.

Zumindest läuft das in meinem Kopf so ab. Aber irgendwie stellt meine bloße Existenz – und die Existenz von etwa der Hälfte der Menschen, die ich kenne – eine grundlegende, existenzielle Bedrohung für die Gesellschaft dar. Unser Modegeschmack ist schlecht, aber so schlimm ist es doch sicher nicht.

Die Sache ist die: Auf individueller Ebene interessiert es niemanden sonst auch nur im Geringsten, dass ich trans bin.

Einmal, im ländlichen West Virginia, erzählte ich dem Klärgrubenreiniger, dass ich eine Transfrau bin, während wir uns unterhielten, als er jahrzehntelang angesammelten Dreck aus der Grube unter meinem Haus entfernte.

In #Idaho they banned all but official city or state flags on public buildings in an effort to stop City Hall in Boise from displaying the Progress #Pride flag.

So the Boise city government made the Progress Pride flag an official city flag. The loophole meant the idiots in the state government had to try again.

So they passed another bill to ban that, and the mayor of Boise lit up City Hall in #trans colors for #TransDayOfVisibility.

She's like "I fuckin dare you."
