The next morning means it's time for the train back home. After many rides on quirky, short trains, the 'classic' long-distance train is a welcome change. The beloved #Transalpin Graz-Zurich is the last loco-hauled EuroCity train to Switzerland. A nine-and-a-half-hour train ride through the Austrian Alps awaits! 😍
Only drawback: It is operated with fewer second class coaches today again. However, we are lucky enough to sit in a different car. #SteierMarch -

The last run of the rake currently used on #EuroCity #163 #Transalpin. For the last time, it's a mixed consist of ÖBB 🇦🇹 and SBB🇨🇭cars. It includes the last #ÖBB full 40-seat #DiningCar where I enjoy breakfast. From tomorrow's timetable change on, the consist will essentially be composed of #SBB cars.

Der #Transalpin (#Graz - #Zürich) führt keinen Speisewagen mehr und es ist anscheinend auch nicht geplant wieder einen für diese Strecke in Betrieb nehmen. :sadlinux: Die Speisewagen seien zu alt, zu wartungsintensiv und zu teuer.Die Idee des mobilen Boardservice gefällt mir nicht, die belegen hier drei meiner geliebten Abteile der zweiten Klasse. Zum Glück hatte ich noch genug Zeit am Bahnhof um Proviant zu besorgen.

Going through the photos taken yesterday on board the #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #EuroCity #Transalpin to #Graz. Because of track works further north, the train is diverted via #Villach, an occasion to enjoy some “faux cab-ride” views from the last car of the consist, as we travel along the scenic #Tauernbahn line.

Good morning from the #EuroCity #Transalpin #DiningCar. This is one of the few “full diners” remaining with #ÖBB 🇦🇹. There are plenty of seats available. An ideal place to enjoy breakfast as we pass by the lakeside just after leaving #Zurich🇨🇭.

First things first: #breakfast ☕️🥐🍳 in the #ÖBB 🇦🇹 #EuroCity #163 #Transalpin @diningcar. To my knowledge, this is the only -remaining- train with a full, 40-seater, ÖBB diner. Railjets have got a much smaller dining section with very limited seating options. -

They’ve got the new, wintery, menu: I opted for a nice “Schweinsbraten Tullnerfeld” (pork roast, whatever the meaning behind Tullnerfeld) and an organic beer.🍺

Unmittelbar nach dem Ende der Baustelle im Rheintal beginnt am 09.09. bereits die Ennstalsperre zwischen Bischofshofen und Selzthal.
EC #Transalpin wird daher zwischen Selzthal und Wörgl großräumig über die Pyhrnbahn, Weststrecke und den DB-Korridor umgeleitet und hält in Salzburg Hbf. Dabei wird auch die Schleife zwischen Ansfelden und Marchtrenk befahren, wo es normal keinen Personenverkehr gibt. (3/5)

If you want to ride on a Eurocity panoramic car through 🇩🇪, this is your last opportunity in 2024. After July, the EC #Transalpin connecting Zurich with 🇦🇹 Graz will remain the only loco-hauled SBB Eurocity train.

Dann probieren wir das hier doch auch einmal mit dem Berichten von Reisen:
Der Tag begann heute früh am Bodensee, nachdem ich relativ schlaflos mit Nacht-ICE und dem ersten RE ab Ulm angereist bin. Fotos aus Friedrichshafen und Lindau. Das war es aber wert, denn ein ganz besonderer #Transalpin wartet.
