Hi there, Internet.

The other night someone I don't know and have never interacted with sent me a 60 Minutes-style video about trans people with a horrible, slur-filled, hateful voiceover. Then they sent me a graphic gif depicting a literal murder.

First off, I feel so sorry for this person. To enjoy your own life so little that you attack strangers for tiny little hits of feeling relevant is so sad.

I get it. This person probably hates themself for some reason. Maybe depression, maybe grief or trauma. Maybe they're an egg and they hate themself for it.

I'm not proud of it, but I was well on my way down the rabbit hole of Internet radicalization in and around 2006. I was depressed and hated myself and places like 4chan gave me an opportunity to hate others more than I hated myself.

I was fortunate because what pulled me out of that spiral was finding a meaningful relationship. The Internet troll who is now my wife helped me grow in myself. We grew together and we've helped each other.

Not everyone gets out of that spiral. In fact, that's why we have -gestures in US politics-.

I see the world way differently than I did back then, but I remember how I used to see it. I was |this close| to becoming one of those Q people. Sure, I acted like a decent person in the real world but I was garbage in certain parts of the interweb.

All that to say, I get it. I understand what is happening in the cycle of radicalization and inciting hate because I was almost lost to it.

So you want to call me a "tranny?" Cool! That means you can tell I'm not a cis dude and that actually makes me feel good.

You wanna call me a "trap?" Okay first off, l don't believe anyone finds me attractive enough to get "trapped" by me but whatever. I guess you're calling me hot. I played the loooong game on my wife and definitely sprung my trap on her after longer than a decade. Sorry, Love! Enjoy getting banged by your Trap Wife I guess?

And here's the good one- you wanna call me a "troon?" Sure, whatever. But I know the origin of the term and I was never a "goon" so wtf are you even trying to call me? Learn your Internet pop history, newbie. What, are you 12? Get new insults.

The people who call us these things are so sad. They steal memes and language from other Internet communities because they can't come up with their own. They repurpose them to hate us whole completely missing the original point. ("Red pill" anyone?)

They need new material, but they're not going to get it because they're too boring. They'll just keep spewing at us the garbage they picked up at the garage sales of the Web, never knowing how much they're telling on themselves.
