  1. 🚆 German trains stopped by... *radio static*? 📻 Because clearly, the only thing more efficient than German engineering is their love for a good static jam sesh. 🎶🔊 Next up: blaming traffic jams on Bach's symphonies. 🎼🙃

  2. We've been all in on the concept of #localfirst software development paradigm, and have been doing events to get the word out and get key people together to push things forward. Let's take a little trip around the world shall we? 🌎🌍🌏 #LoFiSoftware

First we did #trainjam where a bunch of hackers boarded a train in Seattle, and for 4 days hacked their way across the US to St Louis for Strange Loop. As the gorgeous scenery slid by, the train car was a flurry of local network activity 🚂 1/3

  3. Also, nice shout out for #trainjam on the cover image! 🚂

  4. I'm stuck on a train and getting #TrainJam 2019 vibes. Are we all still on that train? That would explain a *lot*

  5. During #trainjam, we somehow got to talking about audio clips all tuned to the same pitch.

I have such a collection! And since @akkartik has requested a copy, I figured I'd just post it here for anyone who might enjoy such a thing:

Do whatever you want with these, no need to credit me, but if you make something cool I'd love to hear(?) it.

  6. If anyone on #TrainJam wins the lottery, please take me on this deluxe travel + food trip.

“The Transcantábrico Train takes 8 days and 7 nights between San Sebastián and Santiago de Compostela (or vice versa)…aboard a luxurious hotel on rails surrounded by glamour, with exclusive attention and maximum comfort.”

  7. It's day # two of #trainjam. A conversation about geometric algebra turned into questioning the use of uppercase letters in Self. Motion sickness level: it's easier to walk on your toes because the train is so dang bouncy, the dining car smells bizarre, I saw some PHP 🤢

  8. Day #☠️ of #trainjam: HyperCard failed because it was simultaneously not good enough at converting artists into programmers, and because Alan wasn't sufficiently invested in the long term survivability of executable artifacts, something something uxn. God rest our mortal souls; see you at Strangest Loop!

  9. @sean here is certainly where I share this type of stuff.

There’s a GitHub org, and generally what I like helping with is enabling people so they can #TrainJam all over.

Various #Dweb things stewarded by @internetarchive are heading in good directions.

Can I interest you in #DWebYYZ?

  10. Just got confirmation that #TrainJam is under way on the Empire Builder from Seattle.

Will arrive late Wednesday night in Chicago, then transfer to train to St Louis and arrive Thursday 12:30am or so.

I am not on the train, which I’m bummed about, but pleased to have helped enable.

    Here’s the stickers we made.

  11. @causalislands we're going to start a trend by taking the train to conferences ✊ #trainjam

  12. @rachelnabors we’ve got a crew taking the train from Seattle to St. Louis talk.fission.codes/t/trainjam-

Follow the #TrainJam tag for our kooky adventures ;)

  13. @rachelnabors 🚊🚞💺🚉🚂🚆🚄🚅🚃🚇🚟🛤️🚝🚋🚈 #TrainJam

  14. @evan wow. Relevant for our #TrainJam travel this September.

This is my first big US train travel and I’m glad we’re getting it done.

  15. #TrainJam people, we've included a ticket in your package for this event, check your email for the code.

  16. Ok! We hit our #TrainJam initial capacity.

Please put your email in the waitlist and we’ll sort out single vs double roomettes.

Edit: registration closed for now, leave a comment on the wiki if you want to be on the waitlist as we open a few more rooms talk.fission.codes/t/trainjam-

  17. @dnorman @boris @matrix Hah, my PirateBox experience is rather dated (10+ years) and rusted, crude.

#TrainJam sounds like a great experience. I did a few cross country trips by rail, there's very minimal internet connectivity which can be a bonus.

  18. Related: anyone got recommendations on a portable mini server with wifi?

And know how to setup @matrix in a local / intermittently connected mode?

    #TrainJam

  19. About half of the seats are booked already.

Some of the people committed so far are @avi, @jack @akkartik and a handful of others I don’t have accounts to tag 😆

We’ve got some background #TrainJam notes on the @fission wiki if you want to brainstorm or have questions talk.fission.codes/t/trainjam- — or tag me here

  20. We’ve got Gradient Retreat gradientretreat.com/ supporting this experience, and myself and the @causalislands @fission crew are helping organize.

Yes, local first software, future of computing, and DWeb of all kinds are strong themes. But take it as a mini retreat to hack on whatever you like.

Want to sponsor #TrainJam? Get in touch!

  21. Good morning! Officially announcing #TrainJam this morning: what if we did a software retreat and put it on a train?

Runs Sept 18th leaving from Seattle and arrives the night before #StrangeLoop in St Louis

    lu.ma/trainjam2023

  22. #TrainJam is a go!!!!!! talk.fission.codes/t/strangelo

We have 12 roomettes and 1 family room and 15 adult tickets reserved.

I need to collect names of TrainJammers in the next little while, so stay tuned!
