  1. Had a great day #trailriding in the forest and munching berries, arriving home so worn out that even my head went quiet for a couple of hours.

Now I'm munching magnesium, hoping to avoid waking up to the cramps that tend to tag along when I ride the hills like I'm young and fit. Still worth it, though!

  3. Unfortunately, my old 26" Nimbus muni is finally starting to show its age.

The hydraulic rim brakes are getting tired (and seem to confuse every local bike shop), 26×3" tires are getting harder to find, and I just snapped a spoke. Everything is repairable, but it felt like the right time to retire it to winter/backup duty and treat myself to an upgrade.

The unfortunate part? There really aren't many good options for Canadians anymore. Kris Holm still makes incredible unicycles (I absolutely love my KH36), but there isn't a Canadian dealer anymore, and U.S. shops generally won't ship them across the border.

(insert plea for someone to starting selling good unicycles in Canada again!)

So... if I'm already paying to ship a unicycle across an ocean, why not go all in and order a customized one from Italy!?

    I ended up ordering a custom-anodized 27.5" from Mad4One (mad4one.com), and it finally arrived.

The fit and finish are fantastic, and having hydraulic disc brakes on a muni is a huge step up from the old rim brakes. It may just be the honeymoon phase talking, but the 27.5" also seems to roll over roots and rough sections a little more effortlessly than my old 26".

I've had it out a few times on the local trails and it's awesome. Looking forward to actually making out it to the mountains soon!

  5. @avmakt How's was the conditions in Lillomarka? The little bit of #trailriding I did in Gjelleråsen a couple of days ago was pretty good although it might have been a little bit wetter than usual.

  9. The open meadow on this trail had beautiful views while we were horseback riding in the Wind River Range, Wyoming last month. While riding on the side of this mountain at about 10,000' elevation, we had great views of two other mountains across the valley. Such a scenic place! #Wyoming #FootpathFriday #Footpath #horse #horses #HorsesOfMastodon #TrailRiding #hiking #backpacking #mountains #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography #GetOutside #outside

  13. Here is a nice 3D visualization of our horseback ride/hike to the lake in the Wind River Range last week (using CubeTrek). Click on the link, then click on "satellite" for the best view. I recorded this on the return, beginning at the lake and ending at the trailhead. Check out the steep section at around 1-mile from the lake. OK on foot, left the horses behind with someone for that section.

  15. Returned last night from Wyoming-- had a blast! Visited three locations. Highlight was our second day of horseback riding in the Wind River Range. Rode to a high elevation meadow, then continued on foot down a steep trail (not suitable for horses) to a lake surrounded by rocky cliffs. More pics to come!

  17. Just returned from an incredible weekend in #Hallingdal with #norwegian #rallydakar legend Pål Anders Ullevålseter. He teached us on how to properly ride on gravel, mud, sand and other demanding trail conditions.
Quite exhausted but happy and I have learned so much.

  20. Trail #dogs are the BEST!! This 3-year-old, named Walker, “led” our return horseback trip for 16+ miles through the #mountains last week in #Colorado, including over a pass (11,900’). He energetically and repeatedly went out-back from the trail in all directions throughout the trip checking out great smells. So much fun! #dog #DogsOfMastodon #Wedsneigh #horse #horses #HorsesOfMastodon #TrailRiding #hiking #backpacking #nature #NaturePhotography #landscape #photography #LandscapePhotography

  21. Just returned from an amazing 32-mile horseback ride through the #mountains! Experienced a wide range of picturesque terrain: forest, meadows, steep rocky sections, up and over a pass (11,900’), an alpine lake, and many stream crossings. Had a blast! More pics to come! 22. Do you enjoy recreation on #BLM land?

Here is an interactive map covering all BLM land and with lots of #GIS layers you can turn on/off/restack.

Want to make your own custom map link? Turn on geolocation? Search? Get details for a campground? You can lean how to do that and a lot more if you read the “Map tips” link in the upper left corner.

  23. A nice sequence of Leia (#quarterhorse) and Jasmine working at liberty on crossing over a wooden bridge. This is excellent preparation for both #trailRiding and trailer loading #positivereinforcement #wedsneigh #equestrian

  24. Happy #Wedsneigh! I spent two wonderful weeks last fall #hiking and horseback riding various trails in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in #Colorado. My favorite experience was riding to Capitol Lake, which is at the base of Capitol Peak shown in the background. #horses #mountains #nature #explore #outside #trees #landscape #photography #trailriding #HorsesOfMastodon #LandscapePhotography

  25. Happy #Wedsneigh! This is from our four-day pack trip several years ago in the Maroon Bells-Snowmass Wilderness in #Colorado. We camped at 11,000’ elevation and took day trips up to higher elevations, 12,500’. An amazing experience! #horses #mountains #hiking #nature #explore #landscape #photography #trailriding #horsesofmastodon #LandscapePhotography
