  1. Three days of rain means my local trails are full of slippery roots and rock slabs, so to increase my survival odds I've put together a second front wheel I can use in slippery conditions; a ZTTO rim and P3 hub with an Assegai MaxxGrip tyre.
Wanted the EXO+ casing, but could only find DH in stock.

Boggles the mind that using this tyre not only adds more than 600 grams to the bike, but sacrifices 30 watts of power compared to the XC tyre.

  6. Had a great day #trailriding in the forest and munching berries, arriving home so worn out that even my head went quiet for a couple of hours.

Now I'm munching magnesium, hoping to avoid waking up to the cramps that tend to tag along when I ride the hills like I'm young and fit. Still worth it, though!

  11. Unfortunately, my old 26" Nimbus muni is finally starting to show its age.

The hydraulic rim brakes are getting tired (and seem to confuse every local bike shop), 26×3" tires are getting harder to find, and I just snapped a spoke. Everything is repairable, but it felt like the right time to retire it to winter/backup duty and treat myself to an upgrade.

The unfortunate part? There really aren't many good options for Canadians anymore. Kris Holm still makes incredible unicycles (I absolutely love my KH36), but there isn't a Canadian dealer anymore, and U.S. shops generally won't ship them across the border.

(insert plea for someone to starting selling good unicycles in Canada again!)

So... if I'm already paying to ship a unicycle across an ocean, why not go all in and order a customized one from Italy!?

    I ended up ordering a custom-anodized 27.5" from Mad4One (mad4one.com), and it finally arrived.

The fit and finish are fantastic, and having hydraulic disc brakes on a muni is a huge step up from the old rim brakes. It may just be the honeymoon phase talking, but the 27.5" also seems to roll over roots and rough sections a little more effortlessly than my old 26".

I've had it out a few times on the local trails and it's awesome. Looking forward to actually making out it to the mountains soon!

  16. @avmakt How's was the conditions in Lillomarka? The little bit of #trailriding I did in Gjelleråsen a couple of days ago was pretty good although it might have been a little bit wetter than usual.
