  1. @Dragofix
No mention of distracted and reckless drivers of needlessly and increasingly large motor vehicles.

No mention of #motorism as a cause of #trafficviolence.

#DyrenesBeskyttelse is a fake animal rights NGO, who are blaming the killed deer for being active during spring.

I am also more active during spring, but that's no excuse for killing me!?

  2. so-called #trafficsafety is often straight up #victimblaming, placing the blame for #trafficviolence on those who are hurt or killed by #cars. 🔄

    today in #copenhagen #motornormativity, a sign reading:

🪧 »Dear cyclists. Take care of the cars, reduce the speed.«

dear kids. take care of the gun owners, wear a bullet-proof vest. 🙃

  3. Jennifer Lynn Chatman of Salinas died Nov 3, 2025 after her bicycle was struck by the trailer of a semi truck at the intersection of South Sanborn Road and Work Street, Salinas.

As we told Sara Rubin, #MontereyCountyNow / #MontereyCountyWeekly editor, infrastructure such as protected bike lanes with a physical barrier are what’s most needed to keep people who bike safer. In general, paint on pavement provides little to no real benefit in preventing fatalities.

Nevertheless, one “paint on pavement” practice we would like to see far more of — and which possibly could have saved Jennifer’s life — is bike boxes at intersections.

  4. this *sounds* like SFMTA agreed to painting full 20-foot red curbs at every intersection, rather than the mere 10 feet at stop-controlled intersections that has been traffic engineer Ricardo Olea's policy. if so, good! parent organizing worked!

  6. Another great video about the need for Measure HLA to pass in Los Angeles. This time by Nimesh in LA.

He lays out why the status quo in unacceptable, and why the City needs to be forced by the citizens to act to make the streets safe for humans and not just speedy for cars.

Car drivers kill 200-300 people per year in #NYC, and injure another > 60,000 people each and every year. And yet when people in this city try to get a permit to remove cars from their street for a day, they're denied by the #NYPD due to concerns about "violence." 🙄

  9. Just heard about a #SpeedTrap in ¿#Sweden? where non-speeders were entered into a lottery, and fines were monthly awarded to one of the non-speeders.

Does anyone have more context for this? Did it work to reduce #speeding and #TrafficViolence?

  13. Portland is one of 4 large US cities without #police #traffic #enforcement katu.com/news/katu-investigate.

On the one hand, keeping police out of enforcement is good. It prevents #DrivingWhileBlack harassment + excessive policing.

On the other hand, #USDOT ranks #Oregon in top 10 #TrafficViolence

In 2021 Oregon had 1.54 traffic deaths for every 100M miles traveled vs nearby WA at 0.94 death/100Mvmt.

#Portland has lots of #EntitledDriver #StreetRacing, but few #speed cameras or safety engineering.
