I regularly see this sort of irresponsible driving in Southeast Portland. On Division this morning, I saw a self-involved troll passing cars at freeway speeds on a neighborhood street that's a no-passing zone. 1. Doing #trafficschool and the curriculum repeatedly states that "using alternative forms of transportation can be very expensive." Frustrating that this is both ignorant and true depending on where you live. But, feels like it is another example of perpetuating #carculture. Ironicly, it also perpetuates the #trafficdeaths that it is trying to help reduce ... which it clearly states is the number one cause of death of people ages 1-54 in the U.S. as of 2019, and its gotten worse as of today. Also super annoying that they use the word "alternative".

Frustrating that this is both ignorant and true depending on where you live. But, feels like it is another example of perpetuating #carculture. Ironicly, it also perpetuates the #trafficdeaths that it is trying to help reduce ... which it clearly states is the number one cause of death of people ages 1-54 in the U.S. as of 2019, and its gotten worse as of today. Also super annoying that they use the word "alternative".

I remarked yesterday that #cycling round the city on a cold but clear + sunny day made me resent the smell of petrol + diesel engines. But the adoption of #EV's in #Norway appears to have had fatal consequences on pedestrians due to weight.
The statistics on US #TrafficDeaths are *appalling*.
This piece makes me wonder if anything can ever be done about any easy to solve problem in a polarised land.

- lowest air #pollution
- <1/4 the #trafficdeaths compared to the US (2.7 vs 12 per 100.000 inhabitants)
- same average travel speed (18km/h)The author hides the answer in the last paragraph: “Japanese value the society more than their own comfort”
Also: No on street parking, need to have a personal parking spot to register a vehicle.
