Week 8, 2025: Sewing!

Truly, this week was just for sewing (and working on the pattern files). I finally was able to finish the dirndl skirt as far as possible, started on the bodice and nearly finished it.

That pattern, which is also from the same book as the dirndl blouses i made last year, is much better than the blouses. Although it probably was constructed for someone with more bust. Which is still weird compared to the waist, but it fits great at the armholes and the neckline, so i´m fine with it.

A dirndl bodice is sewn together with the lining from the beginning, which means you cut both out (outer fabric and lining), laying them on top of each other so that the left(!) sides are facing each other and sew the cut-on facing to the lining and iron it to the inside. After that you close the darts and sew the side pieces to the back piece and close the shoulder seams. What is also important is to mark your seam allowances and the center front.

I cut out some bias strip/ tape to make some passepoil band, which then get sewn to the armholes and neckline. First by machine and then sewn down by hand. After that i could close the side seams and try it on. It was a bit big, but not much, so i took in the side seams. And now it fits great.

I still have some ironing and hand sewing to do, but then it is finished and i can sew it onto the skirt.
But don´t worry, there are still some steps left to do, before the Dirndl is completely finished.

I haven´t done any knitting this week, but a lot of gardening. My tomatoe seeds are already sprouting!
The garden soil is slowly getting warmer. Which doesn´t mean i can plant stuff outside, but it will soon be time for some digging and garden bed planing – we like to change the partitioning of the beds every two years.
