#California Targets Tractor Supply's Tricky #Tracking

The California #Privacy Protection Agency ( #CPPA ) issued a record fine earlier this month to #TractorSupply , the country’s self-proclaimed largest “rural lifestyle” retailer, for apparently ducking its responsibilities under the #CaliforniaConsumerPrivacyAct.

Thank you for posting this. We are also rural and have a pet food subscription through #Bottomless — I have just emailed them to suspend our subscription until they can tell me that we can get Blue Buffalo through a vendor other than #TractorSupply.

Just stopped shopping at my neighborhood #TractorSupply.

@GreenFire I guess I’ll stop shopping at #TractorSupply they obviously don’t want my business anymore

Well, I sent this response:

For years, my family has relied on Tractor Supply for the majority of our farm and pet needs. However, after your company statement on June 27, 2024, we shall no longer be shopping with your company. My family includes LGBTQ persons, and your current policy is bigoted towards them. My family supports the Human Rights Campaign fully, even though your company has chosen to bow to the conservative right and exclude data. Your company has also chosen to eliminate DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) in your work environment, which means you may now discriminate against LGBTQ current employees. While agreeing that sponsorship of community events is business-oriented, choosing to discriminate against pride and voting campaigns further alienates your company in regards to the total community you really need to include. So basically, your "trust and confidence," which you purport, is really simply a falsehood. My family does not take that "lightly."

Welp, time to take my business elsewhere. #TractorSupply #fail https://boingboing.net/2024/06/28/tractor-supply-company-ends-dei-efforts-and-pride-month-participation-to-please-conservative-critics.html

I just sent this email to #TractorSupply. I am not expecting a response.

If you are a customer of theirs, especially (but not exclusively) if you are rural, I am generally happy to help you find alternatives if you wish to take your business elsewhere.

Part of the reason you are seeing so much disappointment is because this is a company that largely, until this point, was walking a very different line, which you can see in their human rights policy https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc/cms/human-rights-policy and previous environmental commitments.

HRC gave them a score of 95 https://www.hrc.org/resources/buyers-guide/tractor-supply-company-2

I don't think anyone thought they were even liberal, but it's a damn sight better than most companies in this space.

A short thread.

I will never step foot in a Tractor Supply store again.

There are other choices. Sadly, this sort of bullshit is becoming the rule not a one- or two-off example.

Well that's disappointing. https://corporate.tractorsupply.com/newsroom/news-releases/news-releases-details/2024/Tractor-Supply-Company-Statement/default.aspx

There aren't many participants in this particular market and most of them aren't any better.

An update on the #TractorSupply situation in #NewMexico. The store renewed the #MVD dealer license for its 23 locations in the state, but customers who bought trailers, ATVs or other titled items while the license was invalid will still need to return them.

https://www.demingheadlight.com/2023/03/31/tractor-supply-renews-mvd-dealer-license-new-mexico-lapse/

If you purchased a trailer, quad, two-seater or any product requiring title from a #TractorSupply store in #NewMexico since Feb. 28, you're going to have to return it.

From the #DemingHeadlight:

The timing on this couldn't be any better
