  1. One small computing thing that might have sounded strange and futuristic for me fourty years ago is probably that often I use a laptop with four mouse-like devices. My Thinkpad has a touchpad, a trackpoint device, and then I plug in a usb mouse and a drawing pad. Then not every computer even had a mouse.

Of course the fact that I can plug and unplug the mice on the fly is a nifty thing too.

  2. HyperSpace TrackPad Pro is canceled, Hyper promises refunds to Kickstarter backers

The HyperSpace TrackPad Pro was designed to be the best external TrackPad available for Windows PCs. With a large touch surface, haptic feedback, force detection, wired and wireless support, and software that lets you assign configurable actions to the four “dynamic action zones” in the corners.

Unfortunately it’s not actually going to ship. Hyper has posted an update on the Kickstarter […]

  3. Framework wants its Wireless TouchPad Keyboard to be a better keyboard for your living room

Most modern laptop computers have trackpads below the keyboard. But if you’re using a desktop computer (or a laptop positioned so you can use it like a desktop), then odds are that you use a mouse and keyboard.

That’s not the ideal setup for every situation though. When you’re sitting on your couch and interacting with a PC connected to a TV, for example, you might want a small wireless […]

  4. I never knew that the Magic Trackpad could do haptic feedback on anything other than click...

... I discovered this when setting up Zen browser. It was the same effect that you get when adjusting some controls on an iPhone

Why don't more apps do this? It was fun!

  5. I saw an Explaining Computers video about the Peripad-506 trackpad, and while he cautioned that not all features were working outside of Windows, enough of it worked in Linux that I wanted to get it, as I need something gentle on the hand at the moment. I'm happy to report that it just works great in KDE. Maybe it is better supported now than when he tested it; gestures, 2- and 3-finger taps etc. work great, and I'm using it on a tablet that already has a trackpad, but they show up as separate trackpads that let me define sensitivity and preferences for each one. This is just lovely. #linux #accessibility #trackpad #peripad506

  6. Started using a trackpad with my desktop setup (ironically, a Latitude E6540). Honestly never thought I'd see myself do this, but here we are.

My trackpad of choice is the Magic Trackpad, the battery powered one, not the rechargeable one.

  7. HyperSpace TrackPad Pro delayed indefinitely, Hyper offers refunds (crowdfunding)

The HyperSpace TrackPad Pro is a touchpad designed to be a highly configurable wired or wireless input device for computers and mobile devices. Last fall, Hyper launched a Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the trackpad, and the company expected to begin shipping units to backers by March, 2026.

Now Hyper has revealed that it won’t be able to meet that timeline, so the company is offering […]

  8. Lenovo unveils laptops with touchpads that can be used as graphics tablet with stylus support

Acer isn’t the only company that introduced a new laptop at CES that has a touchpad so large that the company figured you might want to use it as a graphics tablet. Like the new Acer Swift 16, the Lenovo Yoga Pro 7i Aura Edition 15 inch and Lenovo Yoga Pro 9i Aura Edition 16 inch laptops hav a large haptic touchpad with support for pressure-sensitive pen input, allowing you to write or draw on […]

  9. Acer Swift 16 AI has a haptic touchpad so big you can use a stylus to draw on it

The Acer Swift 16 AI (SF16-71T) is a laptop with up to a 2880 x 1800 pixel OLED, 120 Hz touchscreen display and support for up to an Intel Core Ultra X9 388H Panther Lake processor with Intel Arc B390 12-core graphics.

But what really makes this laptop unusual is the touchpad. Acer says the new Swift 16 AI has the largest haptic touchpad of any laptop. In fact, it’s so big that the company […]

  10. My mom has an older lenovo yoga 7 that has a couple of keys that are toast. I’ve already ordered a replacement keyboard but I won’t see her again for several months.

Does anyone have suggestions for ten key-less keyboards with a trackpad? Or really any keyboard with a trackpad that’s integrated?

Boosts welcome. I have no first hand exp with any not-on-my-laptop touch pad.

  11. Ca a few of you out there send me a screen shot of the default Apple #macOS #Trackpad setting please?
I've somehow messed with mine to the extent that occasionally i f I click on things it thinks it's a right click, so showing me options etc instead of just selecting the app / information. I've changed so many of the options for the Trackpad I can't work out what the defaults are :)

  13. HyperSpace Trackpad Pro is an external Precision touchpad with haptic feedback and pressure sensitivity (Crowdfunding)

When I was looking for a high-quality external touchpad to use with my Windows computer this summer, there was basically only one option. And for the most part I’ve been pretty happy with the Ploopy TrackPad that I’ve been using for the last few months.

But there are some features that it lacks, like Bluetooth support, haptic feedback, or pressure sensitivity. Now PC maker HYPER has introduced […]

  14. More #laptop surgery tonight - lower buttons below #trackpad on #Thinkpad #P50 were goosed (left button stuck on, causing all sorts of strangeness, which even upset trackpoint and top buttons) - replaced with another set

A bear of a job as keyboard has to come out, as well as part of bezel around it (I was able to carry out the repair without removing whole thing), dozens of small screws, multiple small connectors must be disconnected and then there is just 4mm of ribbon cable to get into exactly the right spot (again had to use big LED desklamp and wear +1,00 spectacles to see as my contacts correct me for long distant vision, with age I have presbyopia )

At least the surgery was successful, as I'm typing this toot on the laptop with a working trackpad *and* trackpoint..

  15. 💡 Some people chase profits. Others build magic.

I love projects like this one:
    👉 lnkd.in/dx2rU3un

It turns your MacBook trackpad into a digital scale.
No special hardware. No ads. No paywall. Just… curiosity turned into code.

It hijacks the Force Touch sensors, calibrates raw pressure data, and gives you surprisingly accurate weight readings—all with your finger and a clever hack.

This is what I wish more tech looked like:
    🧠 smart
    🧰 simple
    💸 not for sale

While others gatekeep innovation behind SDKs and subscriptions, this project goes:
    here’s how it works, enjoy.
Open Source with purpose, not polish for profit.

    It’s niche, odd, and brilliant.
And that’s exactly why it matters.

To everyone trying to monetise every byte:
You’re missing the joy. You’re missing the point.

    To TrackWeight:
    You nailed it.
    Hacky, educational, experimental.
No evil. No upsell. Just exploration.
    Thumbs up.

  16. I've mentioned before that the #Apple Magic #Trackpad 2's one of the best purchases I've ever made, and how perfect it is OOTB on #Linux - gestures and all. The only downside to it is that it's pretty pricey, esp the Black version that I got (tho I still think it's worth every penny).

Since then, I've been meaning to find any other cheaper alternatives to it cos I genuinely think switching from a (wireless) mouse to a trackpad has done wonders to just how nice it is to use and work on my desktop. Surprisingly and disappointingly, none of the
known brands seems to bother to be in this market space besides Apple, not even #Logitech (who typically tends to be everywhere).

Right when I thought I was SOL, I discovered a bunch of Chinese
#touchpad s - a lot of which are Magic Trackpad clones.. including this one I settled on, the #JOOMA KB96. It not only looks similar to the Apple MT2, it has pretty much the exact same dimensions - surprisingly its glass surface also feels exactly the same as Apple's trackpads.

It tracks just as well too, and all my gestures (2, 3, 4-finger, etc.) work perfectly. Its connectivity options is better than the Apple MT2 even - supporting Wired USB-C, Bluetooth, and even a Wireless USB-A dongle (with USB-C adapter). The only
downside to it is that unlike the Apple MT2 which supports clicks (in addition to taps) anywhere on the surface of the trackpad with really nice haptic feedback, this trackpad doesn't support clicks at all - only taps. This shouldn't matter for most people who's used to or even prefers taps though - double tap dragging and triple tap highlighting should be your bestie.

Unlike Apple's Magic Trackpad, it doesn't work OOTB on Linux - but fixing that is super, duper easy thanks to others who's discovered how to before. I've linked my own writing on how to do it on my Linux Wiki below. All in all, for just ~145 MYR (~34 USD) instead of Apple MT2's price tag of 599 MYR (~141 USD), this is quite a banger peripheral to pair with the budget alternative to Apple's Magic Keyboard I've posted about before.

  20. I've had this #magicmouse since my #apple period. It was a gift by my sister, and I liked a lot the design, so when I sold the #macbook I didn't feel to sell the #mouse. I kept it, but not used much, as the support in linux was poor (the scroll was slow and sluggish, and I could never manage to make it work decently).
Now I just fired up #kicad and REALLY NEEDED A MOUSE. Everyone has ever tried to use it with the #trackpad knows what I'm talking about.
So, I found the magic mouse on the bottom fof a drawer, tossed two batteries in it and... it works #PERFECLTY on Arch, with no fiddling at all. Just paired, and it Just Works(TM). What a lovely surprise!
...and is also a pretty color match for my #magnesium #slimbook #laptop !
